    I think the estimated contracts are a bit low. You suggest there won't be a bidding war on Ryan and Giles. I'll tell ya though...... I was reading down the lineup and was like "uh, ok. ok. ok. maybe. ok" then got to the end and almost s*** when I saw the active payroll at 108 million. And only then did I realize Manny wasn't on the list! Can you imagine Vladdy and Manny back-to-back? And that's STILL not as good as Ortiz/Manny. :dunno:

    It is an ego thing. Theo basically had Lucchino by the balls. He got the money he wanted He got the years he wanted He got a little more power I'm sure But Lucchino still had to show him who's boss. So he had the Globe run the story. Theo was probably feeling a little unsure about the job anyway, but did battle and won his contract war - probably a little surprised by himself that he got everything he wanted. Then once he realised Larry was going to start using the media on him, he just said screw it. He took the high road and left.

    Ahhhh. The spin zone has started. According to Gammons on ESPN, "Theo hated the limelight.""He's a private person." "It's not Lucchino who leaked to the Globe." Here we go now. I give it 2 days before the real mud starts getting thrown around by the Red Sox.

    Well, this does suck. But you know what? Good for Theo. It seems all the ******** that has been talked about (and pretty well known) is true. It takes some serious balls to walk away from over 4 million dollars.... I can't wait to see what Henry does.

    I think it's more like this. The Red Sox leaked the Manny story but are denying it. The "livid" response to the leak is intended to prove that the Red Sox and the Globe are not in bed together. It's an effort to give the Glove more credibility.

    "NY/NJ/Conn" Noooooooooo. I take offense to that. Connecticut (where I grew up..) is 50% Red Sox fans, 35% Yankee fans on the Western side and 15% Mets fans when they are winning. Just had to clear that up.
