  1. .280 is not bad at all, and neither is the OBP. But the Sox have a full time 3b and want a lefty hitting and fielding 1b. So Youk is going to be the backup 1b/3b. He's not a defensive upgrade to Lowel in the late innings and he's probably not left handed as a firstbaseman, so I say his days are numbered. Also, it should be noted, he's not a good defensive 1b (at least yet), and the Sox I believe are hell bent on improving the infield's defense all the way around with a great glove at 1b. Millar had a lot to do with some of the errors by both Mueller and Rent last year, and I think the Sox are out to prove Edgar is not as bad on defense as he showed last season. Just a hunch, but I think they go for defense at first, which leaves Youk the odd man out.
  2. Oh, and Youk's not a "corn infielder"
  3. Well, I'm totally against trading Manny, but I'd do it for Wagner... Who knows how much Minaya wants Manny?
  4. Ehhh, to me Youk's overrated - epecially by the fans. Yes he walks a lot and works counts. A .400 obp is pretty good, but that's about it. .280 ish hitter below average speed below average power for a corn infielder average glove average arm He's not even good as a utility guy because he can't play the outfield, second or SS. Say what you will about Millar, but aside from his one bad offensive year, the guy was a value to the Sox. He could play 1b, LF, RF and even 3rd (he did a game or two there in '03) if he was asked to. Mark my words, these qualities will be missed.... Anyway, the most valuable thing about Youk the last two seasons has been his option status. We could purchase him when needed then send him back when we didn't need him. But sadly, he's also out of options. I say he's off to be some other team's 3b by the end of the winter.
  5. Mets have landed coveted closer Billy Wagner in a four-year deal worth $43 million. The deal could be worth as much as $50 million as it includes a fifth-year option for the Mets worth $10 million. But if the team declines the option, Wagner gets a $3 million buyout which is considered part of the original $43 million deal. Wagner was 4-3 with 38 saves and a 1.51 ERA last season for Philadelphia, which wanted to re-sign him. After spending most of his career with Houston, his two seasons with the Phillies showed the left-hander he could handle pitching in a tough city. "I think if I had an opportunity to play in New York four or five years ago, I probably wouldn't have been as receptive to it," Wagner said last week. "After the trade of going to Philadelphia and playing there, I believe that's made it that much easier to handle the media, the pressures." Before the signing, the Phillies had already targeted Yankees set-up man Tom Gordon as a possible replacement for Wagner. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5117698
  6. I like Youk, Arroyo, Clement and cash for Overbay and Sheets. lol. But seriously, nothing would surprise me this offseason.
  7. about Mota @ only 2.6 million... "After forming a devastating late-game combination with Eric Gagne in the Dodgers' bullpen for the third straight year, Guillermo Mota was dealt to Florida on July 30, shaking up the bullpens of both clubs. Mota handled closing duties for more than two weeks while Armando Benitez was on the DL, then settled back into his familiar setup role. He finished the year poorly, posting a 10.66 ERA in his last 11 appearances. Pitching, Defense & Hitting Mota has all the pitches to be a top-rate closer, though he is still mostly untested in the role. He features a 94-96 MPH fastball, a plus change he learned from Gagne and a slider he doesn't throw as much as he should. For someone with such velocity, Mota has a strange tendency to lean too heavily on his change. He was beaten for home runs on the pitch several times in September. Mota is a good fielder but has had major problems controlling the running game. "
  8. AWWW s***. Gotta give Lucchino his due.... Since this ownership has taken over, it's almost like they know exactly what do do when it comes to sticking it to the Yankees.
  9. "BREAKING SPORTS NEWS: The trade between the Red Sox and Florida Marlins became official Thursday night. The Sox landed pitcher Josh Beckett and third baseman Mike Lowell, as well as reliever Guillermo Mota. The Sox will send prospects Hanley Ramírez, Anibal Sanchez, and Jesus Delgado to Florida. " - Boston.com
  10. DONE DEAL. WE GET MOTA TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "After agreeing on Monday to a deal that would bring the Marlins' Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell to the Sox in exchange for three prospects, the teams made it official Thursday, adding Guillermo Mota to Boston's haul and shipping a fourth prospect to Florida." http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/index.jsp?c_id=bos
  11. So what is the deal? I thought the Sox had until 6pm earlier tonight to sign the guy. I've checked everywhere and have found nothing on the status of this trade. I know they may be putting it off until tomorrow, but there should at least be some sort of update - even if there is an extention of the 72 hour negotiating window...
  12. Yeah, Vick rocks. I'd take him over T.O. or Tom Brady. And Tom Brady IS the man.
  13. LET'S GO FALCONS!
  14. Oh yeah. I meant Vaz... I get those two mixed up all the time.
  15. AZ gets Manny Sox get Pavano and pay the difference for two years. Sox swing Fatboy (Wells) and Youk for a leftfielder or 1b.
  16. 9 of the 11 trips to the DL were because of blisters. The older he gets, the lesser of a problem it will be. It's not a shoulder or leg or labrea (or whatever) or elbow.
  17. I'm just gonna post this again because it's fun! http://bellsouthpwp.net/c/h/chinigor/talksox/WWJD2.gif
  18. Well, yeah, maybe. But your team has no top prospects to begin with, so shut up.
  19. In talking to all my Braves-fan friends today about Beckett (who they say will be beyond very good) they said the sleeper in the trade is Lowell. They were all raving about him hitting at Fenway..... ehem, think Kevin Millar when each were hitting well. They also say he's a great Team guy in the clubhouse with better defense than Billy Mueller. We still got Youk and Shoppach as trade bait, so lets get us a slugger for 1b.
  20. Jaret Wright - Age 29 (2005 in AL East) W L ERA IP SO 5 5 6.08 63 34 Arm problems killed him (again).
  21. Clemens owes us not a thing and the Red Sox owe him nothing (ok, maybe an appology), but that's it. If Beckett wants THAT 21, then let him have it. I just hope he can back it up.
  22. Imagine we also get a healthier Wade Miller back too.
  23. Beckett is a FA after '07 - a year in which he gets 7.5 million I think.
  24. Rangers won't get Beckett for Blalock http://www.dfw.com/images/common/spacer.gif From staff reports http://www.dfw.com/images/common/spacer.gif The Rangers won’t be getting Josh Beckett after all. According to Major League sources, the Florida Marlins have decided to trade the 25-year-old Beckett to the Boston Red Sox, reportedly for minor league prospects. The Rangers and Marlins had agreed on the principals in a trade that would have brought Beckett and third baseman Mike Lowell to Arlington for third baseman Hank Blalock and one of the Rangers top minor league pitchers — presumably lefthander John Danks. The Marlins, who are once again believed to be engaging in an austerity drive to significantly lower payroll, decided to accept the Red Sox offer, the source said. The Rangers, who have expressed interest in A.J. Burnett, another Marlins starter who is a free agent, and St. Louis Cardinals free agent Matt Morris, in an effort to bolster the top of their rotation, were ready to sacrifice Blalock’s bat for Beckett. Beckett was 15-8 last season and a postseason hero in 2003 when he beat the Yankees in Game 6 at Yankee Stadium to clinch the World Series for the Marlins. The hard-throwing Texan was the second overall pick by the Marlins in the 1999 amateur draft out of Spring High School. He has a career record of 41-34 with a 2.34 ERA in his career, striking out 607 in 609 innings. Blalock, also 25, was an All-Star in 2003 and ’04, but fell off last season when his averaged dropped to .263 and he hit 25 home runs and drove in 92 runs. Still, he is considered one of the best third basemen in either league and is signed through 2008 with an option for 2009, which makes him attractive trade bait. Although Burnett would not cost the Rangers a player, the team is reportedly reluctant to give the righthander from Arkansas a five-year contract as a couple of teams have reportedly agreed to. Burnett was 12-12 last season. That leaves the 31-year-old Morris as the other most attractive starting pitcher available. He was 14-10 with the Cardinals last season and would fill the void at the top of the rotation left when the Rangers decided not to re-sign Kenny Rogers.
  25. Well..... I just posted that link and since then they pulled the story down..... and now it's back up :dunno: .
