  1. I think they're really stretching themselves thin with this. They have no true programming during the summer, what with the sox and the sox only playing. They cant fill time with other sports and news, etc. So they have the mad fisherman, and outdoor shows, whatever, no one watches them. At least this way they can claim that it is Red Sox programming. Plus, Jim Rice studders too much.
  2. Congrats to Manny. Damn, Cleveland already got a hit.
  3. I dont see Trot being on the team in 5 years. I would like to think that Nomar would be here though. And I HIGHLY doubt that the entire team would be made up of current Red Sox farm hands. I bet we'll have some current huge name star who is only bound to get better, a la Carlos Beltran or Albert Pujols. (can you imagine Pujols on the sox!)
  4. Well, we could have guessed by your username. And I hadn't realized that Crespo has 0, ZERO, RBIs. That further drives home the point!
  5. If they start advertising on unifroms a la European soccer, I would never forgive them. It would be like the 94 strike... only 10 times worse. This was one small step on the path to that horrible day when ads appear on a batting helmet. Just the fact that they would entertain thoughts of advertising on bases is sickening. Worse things are in the planning stages, I'm sure. ps: Remember when John Henry made Ted Williams wear that STUPID hitter.com hat for the 1999 all star game? Yea, that pissed me off to. I just remembered that.
  6. Just for kicks, what do you think the team will look like in 5 years time? What will the lineup look like? The bullpen? The starting rotation? What minor leaguers will be busts? I'll post mine later. I just thought that this could be fun.
  7. Absolutively 100% correct. Pokey is known for his defense, any offense is a plus from him. I certainly would not expect him to keep hitting well. He'll most likely hit .240 for the season. But I do think that his defense is valuable. For so many years the sox have been lead footed sucky fielders, and now he comes around and changes that. I like this.
  8. We'll get it back, don't worry. D'amico vs Kim. Kim's been bad: 0-0, 10.80 vs. CLE in 2004, but D'amico has been even worse 0-1, 12.60 vs. BOS in 2004. I'm not too worried, I think Kim will have a great performance. Or at least, I hope he does. We cant lose to the Guardians at home! -- Pokey Reese on last week's series in Cleveland Millar's been hot, and Manny's been even hotter. O should not be a problem this time around.
  9. Lol, you can't argue with that I guess. Captain Crespo, nice alliteration But I still think he's the player of greater suck.
  10. Does inconsistency count as a weakness? We trouce the Royals 9-1, and then we go and get trounced ourselves.
  11. Right. The whole "Pedro is dragging the team down" attitude is getting blown out of proportion. Poin is, we DON'T know what goes on in the clubhouse, we never will. Nor do we know what goes on in Pedro's mind. I know this seems like a complete reversal of what I said earlier on in the thread, but I dont believe he messes the team up. He messes the fans up, sure. He complains a lot, and its annoying, but I dont that affects whether or not Bill Mueller will go 4-5 or 0-5 in tomorrow's game. And as far as Zito goes, for the time being I'd rather have Pedro on the team.
  12. Whoops. I forgot to add my input to the Manny/Pedro thing. I, too, vote Manny. Not because Pedro isn't a great player. No, he's the best pitcher in the AL (as my cy young vote shows), but because of consistency and every day consistency. Win shares can compare players I guess, but I don't trust them completely. This team could still win without Pedro. Without Manny, however, it would be tought. That's why he is more valuable right now.
  13. Pedro should beat out Hudson easily. Well, not easily, but hopefully he'll beat him out. Pedro will end up having 1.5 times the strikeouts, and a lowe ERA (both have similar ERAs right now, but Pedro isn't pitching too well). He sure deserves it! If his numbers arent unanimously the most impressive this year, they should remember when they gave it to Zito over him! That sucked!
  14. Well I'll be damned, the yankees won. Damn the Mariners! Anyway, this game wasnt so great. Plus it was mother's, so I guess thats why things seem dead around here, people were too busy spending time with dear old mum. We'll beat up on Cleveland tomorrow I hope. At least we scored 4 runs, right?
  15. I wasn't implying what do you think of him NooooOOow in a sarcastic tone, I was actually wondering what you think of him. Just because he has poor stats in one series doesn't mean you can't get an impression of how he plays. He's certainly a superstar, I'll give him that, and he'd be a household name if he played anywhere else.
  16. Stop with the foxwoods! Ahhh. On a positive note, sox only have 4 LOB through 7. Things are looking up.
  17. Reading through this, the first 4 posts were about Beltran, and the rest have been about Trot Nixon. Seeing him play in this series, what do you guys think of him?
  18. How long do you think it is before high school and little league players follow his lead and start pissing themselves. I bet they'll think its cool, since Posada does it and all, and Posada's the man. I can see it now, a soccer mom walking in on her 10 year old peeing on his hands, trying to ween himself off of batting gloves.
  19. Right. Crespo's minor league stats are worse than Bellhorn's major league stats. Enough said.
  20. Yes. I'm so glad we faced Cleveland and KC rather than Oakland and Baltimore, or some much tougher combination like that. Both of these teams can't pitch, and the sox can now find their rhythm against them. This should carry over into future series I hope. Amazing how opinions on Pokey change so quickly, isnt it? All he has to do is hit two home runs in one game to get people on his side. I remember not so long ago he was "horrible", an "automatic out" (he still is). Now he has shown what he can sometimes do. That combined with his defense makes him extremely valuable.
  21. Can this site maybe add a minor league section to the forums? A lot of stuff is going on down there, and it may be a good idea to have a dedicated forum to discuss it. Would people contribute?
  22. It's never too late with Schilling pitching. We just need one or two runs for victory. I like Tek running there too, because our offense, although it has been hitting of late, is still streaky, so we need runs however we can get them.
  23. http://www.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/events/a.../ballot_reg.jsp Write him in at the bottom. I think you can do it up to 25 times and email 25 friends. All of Red Sox Nation is doing this, so he may actually have a legitimate shot of making the team.
  24. All you need to do is compare their stats to see "who sucks worse". Crespo: Last 3 years Team G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS 2001 SDG 55 153 27 32 6 0 4 12 25 50 6 2 .209 .320 .327 .647 2002 SDG 25 29 5 5 2 0 0 0 3 6 3 2 .172 .250 .241 .491 2004 BOS 20 43 1 7 1 1 0 0 0 12 0 0 .163 .163 .233 .395 Career 100 225 33 44 9 1 4 12 28 68 9 4 .196 .285 .298 .582 Bellhorn: Last 3 years Team G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS 2002 CHN 146 445 86 115 24 4 27 56 76 144 7 5 .258 .374 .512 .886 2003 CHN 51 139 15 29 7 1 2 22 29 46 3 3 .209 .341 .317 .658 2003 COL 48 110 12 26 3 0 0 4 21 32 2 3 .236 .368 .264 .632 2004 BOS 27 92 17 22 5 0 3 13 27 31 2 0 .239 .415 .391 .806 Career 398 1109 177 256 50 8 39 119 197 370 23 12 .231 .351 .396 .747 Although the stats are messed up (I still can't figure out how to get them to line up properly), you can see that, for both this year and for their careers Bellhorn is much much better. Sure, he isn't great, but compared to Crespo he is.
