  1. Do you like the monstrous, steroid infused, wait for a grand slam, homerun type of baseball or do you like the sac bunt, steal a base, hit and run type baseball? I'm a bigger fan of the latter type. Homeruns are exciting and all, but waiting on them seems stupid to me. It's much more exciting to see a speedy runner dart off towards second in a blatant challenge of the catcher, or to see a ball slide through the infield on a successfully completed hit and run (bonus if the runner advances to third). This isn't just relating to the Red Sox, although it can be, but which do you prefer to watch no matter what the teams playing?
  2. Hey, nothing is done yet, remember that.
  3. I see your error was fixed. The game's at 1:05 on NESN. This is the third time Pedro has faced Halladay this season alone. Pedro won the previous two and only allowed two earned runs over 14 2/3 innings. We probably won't score more than 4 runs off of him (if the other two games against him are any indication). Pedro should be dominant though since he struck out 11 after struggling just a bit in the beginning of the last game, and I don't think its a stretch at all to say that this could be a win for the sox.
  4. The sandlot has got to be my favorite. It's one of the most classic movies ever made.
  5. DC is most likely where they'll end up, Baltimore resistance be damned. I'm sure a nice rivalry would develop between them and the O's too, after a few years, even though they would be in seperate leagues. They'd compete for attendance at least.
  6. Going 2-4 with a hr in your first major league game is a great way to win over the fans. He impressed me, thats for sure. And not just because he got 2 hits, but because he looked good. His swing looked pure, and his stance just gave off an aura of power. I expect great things to come from him.
  7. I wouldn't say everything looks right. I tend to be more of a pessimist though. The sox have struggled mightily offensively and defensively and have lost a good number of games that they should have won. Francona has made some bone-headed decisions, though nothing Grady-esque (yet). Things look good, but not excellent. They looked better at this point last year, but look what happened then.
  8. Resign Beltran, ok, but that leaves us with no more money to work with when trying to resign some of our other current players. Signing Beltran would mean having to choose between Ortiz/Pedro/Nomar/Tek. We couldn't sign Beltran and more than one or two of them if we want to plug up other holes and not go over 120 mil.
  9. Amen! We don't need him, nor do I want him. Cup Cake, haha.
  10. I hope he doesn't go before he cuts his hair! :damon: While there's a definite improvement if Beltran comes (Beltran > Damon), im with yawkeyway on this one. It'll create a humungous, irreperable hole after this season and the sox would tank next year. 'Course, if it means we win the WS this year, then I'd do it, but there are no guarantees in baseball.
  11. The downside to this was that Malaska was optioned back down to AAA. Too bad, he looked really impressive too. Hopefully he'll be back soon. But I can't complain with Youki's homer.
  12. YOUKILIS!!!!!! He'll do great things I tell you, great things. A HR in his second major league at bat. Amazing.
  13. A quotation from Johnny Damon giving insight on the situation: Coming from a player, so I guess its the reason!
  14. I don't think this year can be considered an anomalie (sp?). Lowe just hasn't been on at all. He isnt worth 10 ml/year, thats for sure. But remember last year? He was spot on in the second half, after having an even worse first half than he's on pace for now. Again with the inconsistency, I know, but he's inconsistent! He also has some mental issues. It seems at times that his head isn't in the game, and he often just loses it after doing something wrong. His failure as a closer after saving 42 shows this. I doubt his bout with cancer helped either.
  15. Portland's case: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1801799 DC, Mexico, Las Vegas: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...yson&id=1801828 It'll certainly be interesting to see where they end up. I'd like to see them in Portland though. It's the largest metropolitan area without a MLB franchise.
  16. Too bad I don't live in Portland, I'd love to see Nomar playing finally. How many games do you think it'll take? I remember a few years ago when I almost went down to Pawtucket for Saberhagen's rehab assignment, but ended up bailing out at the last second. I wonder if NESN will pick the game up when it happens, seeing as how Nomar is a key part of the team?
  17. Lol, aww, come on, we can still get him! Don't you love it when rumors get shot down by other teams?
  18. I bet questions regarding D-Lowe will continue to pop up over the course of the season, so why not make an official thread dealing with these matters? 2004 BOS 6 6 3 3 0 0 0 32.1 45 27 18 1 16 15 5.01 1.89 .328 His stats are nothing to be proud of, and I fear we've lost the Lowe of yesteryear. I get the sense that a lot of people agree on this one. So, do the sox even need to make an effort to resign him? Does Boras make it a moot point?
  19. Ahahahaha! And then you named every baseball movie ever made.
  20. I think what she meant was that our pitching, THAT aspect of defense, was great this year and no necessarily just the catching fly balls part. We've always had great pitching. The sox have constantly led the league in team ERA for so many years now, partially because of Pedro Martinez. Or solely because of him. But this year other pitchers (save Derek Lowe) are stepping up and contributing to the awesome pitching staff.
  21. What is the KISS principle? Oh, right, lol keep it simple stupid, right? Yea, it is kind of tough to answer, but I guess we've decided on Manny because of the 150 games to win it theory.
