But injuries as you said changed that plan.  I just remember so many games early in the season when we just knew a lead in the 5th would not hold up as we saw relievers give it back.  But clearly that has changed.    

The pen was not that bad early on. Our bats killed us.

I agree, but maybe it's just you and I who see it that way.

Coulombe had a .629 OPS Against. Only 2-3 other Sox RP'ers have done that well. He's not a high K guy is not a reason to think he sucks.

Watson is our mop up RP'er for a reason: he is not as good as Coulombe (and others.)

Maybe the thought is that when Early & Suarez come back, he'd be gone anyway, so in that sense, maybe it's okay.

I still think some team is on the phone about DC and will give us a prospect for him.

I'd give Watson back, but make no mistake, Rivera is going back when Early or Suarez come off the IL. I guess they could send Moran down, but he's tied with Bennett for the team lead in OPS Against at .550. I think Weissert has an option left, but we will need to demote 2 guys, when Early & Suarez return. What two do you choose?

 For the BP, I'm keeping Chapman, Whitlock, Slaten, Guerrero, Moran, Watson and Bello.  Gray, Suarez, Tolle, Early and Bennett as starters.  Then what becomes of Sandoval?

If Watson was the odd man out, and I am not convinced he is, there has to be a trade market for him.  He has a 3.31/3.86 ERA/FIP with a 32/11 K/W in his past 35.1 IPs.  He might be better than anyone in the Nats' BP.

My post was based on your point about no demoting Rivera, but then you demote him, here and Sandoval. (I'd keep both over Watson.)

Plus some $500-$750k in roster bonuses.   I think Boston might have been more OK with paying that if he wasn’t issuing 6.1 BB/9IP…
