For many of the everyday players, IMHO, too much time in the weight room is the cause of many injuries.

This is a popular scapegoat, and one I subscribed to for awhile, but we have a PhD in physical therapy who works for us and he strongly disagrees.

In the days of fewer injuries there were no weight rooms.

I mean, maybe? This is all very squishy, with lots of differing opinions. I used to believe guys were too focused on strength training but a person who knows a lot more than me thinks I'm wrong.

Those were the days of one year contracts. Players played through injuries to avoid a pay cut the following year.

All the more reason to stop handing out such long, guaranteed contracts.

Personally, I believe swimming is the best way to build up muscle strength.

Are there any starting pitchers left who have pitched a lot of innings (say 1,500 or more?) without at least one extended absence?

Jose Berrios?  Luis Castillo?

Sonny Gray or Kevin Gasuman maybe?

That boat had sailed after the '75 season.

Charlie Finley, after the Curt Flood decision, saw the future of long term contracts and sold the A's immediately. Finley was a lot smarter than the average baseball owner.

And only 4 flavors of ice cream.

I still don't know how those old-timers functioned without black raspberry. The Black Sox didn't throw the 1919 Series for just money, but the promise of gelato from their Italian sponsors.

I'm a fan of Perry's Vanilla Fudge Sundae.

Different pitch mix and lower velocities. If guys went back to that, they'd last longer.
