The tradition since before I joined was is that usually it’s just first come serve, unless the Sox win, then that person continues making game threads until the Sox lose another again.

The MOJO system seems to have worked well.

Ah, our Cubs site had a similar policy (that kind of fell apart when the Cubs scuffled early this season). I'm totally okay with continuing this, the only change I ask is to get the game thread up each morning. In my experience, consistency with the time and creation of the game thread increases engagement and posts in each thread. When we took over the Cubs site, game threads often sat in the 30-50 post range. Now they're over 100 posts almost every game.

Brock, we do need a new Game Thread today and they lost last night. If you'd like to make one today it's all yours! If they win, you'd just have to keep making them until the lose.

I mean 3 last place finishes in 4 years? Maybe the system hasn’t been working that great.

I like the current system for starting game threads and see nothing wrong with short ones--like the one for last night's loss at Camden Yards.

What's kind of unique to Talksox is the disinclination to bring up new topics. In fact, sometimes they are even frowned upon. Thus the very long threads on a realistic assessment of the Sox for the season. In fact, we currently on our 3d for this season.

I think there was a time when there were too many new topics. Now, we have too few topics. We definitely veered too far in the other direction and it made the site unreadable.

Looking at today's new game thread, it certainly looks more professional and attractive. I would say that it is an improvement. And it doesn't stop anyone else from posting their own comments and opinions. I would vote to have the new administrator continue it, win or lose. Personally, I don't care to participate in the game thread when I am watching the game. Just maybe before and after the game. So, my vote probably should not count for much.

This is something I’d like to address in time but I’m not concerned about it right now. More specific, shorter topics are more welcoming to new users. New additions to the forum just won’t participate in a 70 page thread started five years ago.

But again, not something I’m concerned about this moment.

Yeah, I was trying to be more lenient with new threads, but a lot of them weren’t gaining traction or were just stupid threads like “Why is Cora so stupid” and it was a post that could’ve easily been in a game thread. It’s hard to find a good middle ground. I’m all for creative threads but it does sometimes make the site hard to read when it’s a 105 page thread that’s spread out over 2 years.

Yeah, the issue was that it would be the same one or two users spamming the board with useless threads when there were already enough threads complaining about the same topic. It'd be great if there was a thread and it actually stayed on topic because it wasn't 50 pages long.

As I said before, I'm fine with whatever changes come. I'll just be happy if everyone can stick around.

I think it would help if threads stayed on topic. For example, we have a thread about the Chris Sale trade that has lasted way too long and gets way too much attention. Half that stuff could go into the realistic thread (which is pretty much a general thread) or perhaps even start one about the 2024(5) rotations.

Wait. Does that mean you’d miss me?

Do they eat Burmese Pythons and other invasive lizards? If so, I will welcome them with open arms to the Free State of Florida.

You will until they’re done digesting those pythons…
