5 games, 2 starts at 2B aren't quite enough of a rehab.

Vaughn Grissom on his rehab in Worcester: “I want to play as many games as I want, and so I just want to be able to be ready, really ready, when I go out there.”

“I feel like [my timing] is right where everyone’s was in the first week of spring training,” Grissom said. “My leg is feeling great, but I’ve just got to get some more at-bats. It’s just one of those sports where repetition is the only way to get the feel of the game, so I’m just playing it day by day.”

Grissom’s rehab is expected to take the full 20 days; the Red Sox want him back at 100% for when he takes over as their full-time second baseman.

What day is the 20th day?

He also got almost no spring training, I expect the rehab to be long, despite what's going on at the big league level.

Beyond the 20 days?

(He was working out and doing drills before actually beginning the rehab.)

The 20 day rule is in regards to player consent. The player can consent to a longer rehab. With Grissom, they could just option him to AAA and have him start the year there anyway.

Hopefully. But sounding more like mid May.

4/12 was his first WOO appearance. He'd possibly come up May 1.

How soon until Grissom is back in Worcester

Never, unless for short rehab assignments over the next 5 years.

Better than 50% odds on this.

If he keeps this up, he probably gets demoted at some point. I believe he still has one option year left.

There are a few reasons to think it won't happen anytime soon.

1. No real 2B prospect/option knocking on the door to replace him. Enmanuel Valdez' has been hitting better, but really if Grissom has one 4 for 4 day, his OPS would jump to .424 (assuming all singles) and that puts him right there with Valdez.

2. Don't need the roster spot.

3. He's not the only problem. The Sox are not going to turn anything around until a few people start hitting a little more. And Grissom will not be one of them if he is in Worcester...

soxprospects says 2 options remaining.

Of course, he will be sent down, if this continues for a couple more weeks or longer, but I see no reason to think it will.

He has hit the ball hard for outs, and I'm thinking some will fall for hits, pretty soon.

If Romy and DHam keep doing well, the leash might be shortened, but I think he will be given a pretty long leash, especially since he just got off rehab.

Grissom went 4-5, yesterday. Maybe, just maybe...

He needs a much longer stretch.
