The FO didn't give Cora much of a choice. I do agree Whit s/b a reliever.

Although I'm not sure being a reliever would reduce his injury proneness. According to my computer, 'proneness' is a word.

I’m sorry guys. We lost because I didn’t want to make the 2 hour drive to Cleveland

You didn’t even ask us to pass the hat/Venmo for gas money…

:(

The bullpen issues would be much less if the Sox would learn their lesson about Whitlock as a starter…

One arm does not a bullpen make. And don't forget both Houck and Crawford came from the bullpen.

On a positive note, imho, Wylie has been very good offensively and defensively. He's a keeper.

Cora said he wanted to get him more playing time.

Good idea.

Cora also said Dalbec will get the bulk he of Casas’ innings. Hopefully he’s just posturing…

Building up his trade value?

This point can't really be questioned much longer. Whitlock does not have the durability for a 28-30 game starter. The BP is not as deep as it seems from early successes.

The overriding issue is that without Pivetta and , of course, Giolito, there is no one else around to start a game. Sort of like first base situation.

That certainly has been the talk, but remember, "Houck can't get beyond 18 batters and doesn't have a 3rd pitch."

Also, when have Houck or Crawford gone 28 starts?

They failed to get involved in the minor league pitching market. Eric Lauer? Domingo German? Zach Davies? Jake Odorizzi? They didn’t need a cheap Cy Young candidate, just a guy who could throw 140 IP and keep his ERA under 5.50…

Criswell and Gutierrez was it for acquired depth.

It was clear, they wanted to get long looks at the 6 we had, 5 after Gio went down. It's hard to imagine they didn't expect some injuries and missed starts.

Thinking only Criswell & Gutierrez would be enough is painfully similar to past blunders. I guess they viewed Wink ar starter depth, or felt pen games were such a success, last year, we should plan on more for this year.

These aren't even expensive deals to make. Some add no salary to the budget, at all. This is plain stupidity.
