If MLB games were 7 innings long, the SOX would have the best starting staff in the league. Unfortunately for us, games are still 9 innings.

The difference in a starter going 6 innings instead of 5 is huge.

Interesting NESN shot of Breslow and Epstein sitting together watching the game. Breslow is on his phone and I could swear he was saying " I said Shortstop, not Shitshow , you idiot"

Come on Cora

Coming into this game Campbell has pitched 4.1 innings in 5 games with 1 run and an ERA of 2.08.

In just 8 pitches the Orioles have 2 runs in, a man on 1b, and no one out. All 3 hits were singles. Plus the error by O'Neill put first two batters on 2d and 3d. Nevertheless, both runs were earned because of what followed.

You seem to think Cora could have done something inside those 8 pitches. If so, you are nuts.

Speaking of nuts, look in the mirror.

I said it a 100 times last year. Cora is forced into a game of bullpen roulette night after night---guess why ? The so called starters aren't capable of delivering a lot more than 5 inning start. We'll see about Pivetta in a few weeks, but Crawford and certainly Winckowski, if he takes Nick's slot, is no answer to a 7 inning start. Call me when Bello delivers 7. Houck may be the great white hope, but history is not on his side.

Houck has gone 6 twice, so kudos to him.

Just started warming up someone.

I guess I need to remind you too. The Orioles had 2 runs in and a man on 1b in the first 8 pitches.

You sure about that?

I just looked at the team stats for MLB pitching and honed in on the "quality starts," which are defined as 6 or more innings and 3 or fewer runs. These, in order from the best team ERA to the 7th best ERA, are those teams quality starts--

Sox 4

Yankees 4

Guardians 3

Royals 8

Orioles 6

Tiger 2

Mets 2

Care to revise your theory that only quality starts will do?

Also, the Sox lost two of the quality starts, 1 by Pivetta (Sox lost 1-0), and 1 by Crawford (Sox lost 4-3 in extra innings).

Rerun these stats in about 30 days, Max, when it will be declared "STILL EARLY" and the results may vary. Yes, The Sox had a great start from the mound with both starters and BP. The trouble with a 162 game season is that every little flaw gets exposed and utilized by opponents. And that's without the inevitable injuries. The Sox started out this year with a 5 man rotation that only worked when very little went off track. In 2 weeks or less, 40% of the presumed starters went off the reservation.

That was Ownership chocking the FO

Cheer up, MAX. The SOX starters still have the lowest ERA in the league thru 12 games.
