Putting Nick P in the second inning... might as well just have him start a few games.

Ahem. Cora announced about a month ago that Pivetta was/is staying in the bullpen. If you will check Pivetta's game log, you will see that decision was dead solid perfect. He got killed as a starter, but now is borderline invincible--simply by not starting but then pitching starter innings. Don't mess with success.

There's something psychological going on with Pivetta. He's been excellent doing what he's been doing since he was inserted in the BP. Why f**k that up?

My thought was because we are a major league team completely out of starting pitchers. Pivetta's been sharp for a few games out of the pen- no doubt. But is it really sustainable all these bull pen games?

I believe one BP opener is sustainable, but not two. And the one that is sustainable has to include Pivetta.

What’s the difference in Schreiber tossing one IP followed by Pivetta for 5-6 or Pivetta starting the game for 5-6 IP followed by Schreiber for 1IP?

Must be a reason every team uses a rotation of starting pitchers- no? And let's be honest, Schreiber going only one inning was not the plan they had hoped for.

The Rays have been using a BP opener for years. I believe Kevin Cash may have invented that. I may be wrong.

The schedule makers aren't helping the SOX. I don't hate the SOX jerseys; what I hate is the SOX playing on the west coast.

Have to play whoever is in front of your schedule. What this team could use is a starter until these other guys get back. I mean they’re talking about middle August.

My gut tells me Chang, but, as mentioned earlier, I do eat a lot of beans.

Of course they are sustainable!!! Do you seriously think Pivetta is going to start and go 9 freaking innings? In this case, the reliever is simply the starter for 1 or 2 innings, depending. But the bullpen workload is the same. By not starting Pivetta--who was a disaster earlier this year as a starter--Cora had made him way, way more effective. He is also second on the team in innings pitched.

Two days ago against the Mets the Sox did have a bullpen game and won 6-1.

Some guys get the yips and can't throw to first ( see Knoblauch and Lester) . Pivetta has a psychological block against starting. Too much time to think beforehand. Let him run out the season as a 5 inning shutdown ace.

That's what I posted earlier, but you explained it much better.
