I must have just imagined all the posts about trading Paxton.

Ok, are people not allowed to even mention trading a player? I've always said they should hold onto him for the QO, but it's reasonable to have a conversation about the possibility of trading him too.

I'm not the biggest fan of holding, but it's not the end of the world.

There was a MUCH bigger argument for trading last year's assets than for the guys they have this year.

I saw an analysis on that in The Athletic not long ago, in which they explained the reasons for holding. JD had been so bad, and the pitchers, specially Hill, apparently didn't hold much value to other teams, so they opted for the half measure of keeping them and collecting the available extra picks.

Cots has this on Paxton...

23-24 club options, to be exercised or declined simultaneously, at annual salaries of $13M plus performance bonuses earned in 2022

2022 performance bonuses: $250,000 each for 12, 14, 16, 18 starts

annual performance bonuses for 2023-24, if options are exercised: $250,000 each for 20, 22, 24, 26 starts, less 2022 bonuses earned

They already declined the club option.

Right, so most of the board didn't want them to get a pitcher this year? Alrighty then.

And give up one of their precious prospects?

So the only reason you want to hold on to him is for a QO?? How about hanging on to him to help the Red Sox to get into the postseason? Trading Paxton this year when the Red Sox need pitching would be giving up on the rest of this year.

Wacha and Hill were injured and I agree on those two 100%. I think they shot themselves in the dick when they said they wouldn't trade Xander. They should have traded JD for a low A prospect just to get under the CBT at least. That would have made the comp picks this draft much higher.

For the 100th time since last year Bogey had a NO trade, and wasn’t going anywhere. Saying he wouldn’t be traded was just for show as they couldn’t anyway.

This is the part I find inexcusable.

This opinion is bad, and you should feel bad.

Raffy said the Red Sox needed pitching, and I’m sure other players, and Cora felt that way as well. The loser attitude was not getting any. Sale, Houck, and Whit may be coming back, but time is of the essence, and was needed sooner than later.

But if they did trade JD last season, a certain segment would have flipped out on how the sky was falling that the BOSTON RED SOX CAN'T BE A POVERTY FRANCHISE that trades its superstars and must always aim for the playoffs when it's only 2 games back. When you're in that position, unless you win the WS, your choice will always be wrong.

Rafael Devers is not a member of the Sox Front Office and has no bearing on the decisions they take. Same for Alex Cora.

I don’t believe anyone said they did just like yesterday when someone was trying to say Bloom did not make all the decisions. Why would you possibly want to make the Red Sox better, and up already top ticket prices to watch?

They did to the ones that wanted it to happen. Hilarious! lMAO.

They took half measures, and that's a loser attitude. They are disciples of the other corners of the internet you frequent.

Do you actually read what people post here? This is a serious question.

I don’t agree with what Bloom does often, but not doing any sell offs the last 2 years I agree 100%. Those who didn’t got f d.

I answered that yesterday. It depends who it’s from.

Which is why the team isn't in a better position right now.

Wrong 100%. They are in a better position right now to get into the last WC than they were last year. Getting a low level prospect would not be helping them now. Try to keep up to date, and keep up. You’re getting heavy pulling you along. 2023 is all that should matter right now. At least it is for some.

Expanding on that I think the Red Sox are a better team this year compared to last year, and not because of better players, but, because the teams ahead of them are not as good as last, which makes them better. Like Moon said all the teams are flawed.

Bro, the Al East has been historically good this year, and the AL West boasts two juggernauts in Houston and Texas. What are you even talking about?

Winning records do not always equate to being good, and while Tex, and Houston improved I don’t think they are juggernauts.

Wait, what? A winning record is exactly what measures whether you're good or not. Stop moving the goalposts.

A winning record is what counts the most, but like I said is doesn’t always equate to how good you are. It’s like Baltimore this year. Are they really better, or have the teams that were ahead of them last year not as good this year.

A winning record is what counts the most, but only when/if it suits your argument. Got it.
