But a very attractive .586 SLG and a 135 OPS+.

29.9% K rate and 24.7% HR/FB after 3 seasons below 16%. Still not buying it.

Btw, during Dugo's 3.5 seasons with the SOX his BA is .292. If anyone describes that as an 'average bat,' one can only laugh.

I'll give Verdugo credit this year as he is killing it. He's actually the Sox best player so far. He's having a better year than Devers so far.

With that being said prior to this year he was very average. Batting average isn't everything. This past off season he hit the gym and it's paying off so far.

You're right. BA isn't everything; Dugo also plays a very good defensive RF. Calling Dugo's 1st 3 years with the SOX 'very average' tells me someone doesn't know the definition of average.

Interesting info I just gathered watching the Guardians/Cubs game. Cleveland re-signed Jose Ramirez to a 7yr/ 140 million deal beginning next season. He is 30 years old. That was a geat deal for Cleveland considering he is a better hitter and fielder than Devers and is 10 mil/yr less expensive.

In fact, that contract arguably makes Ramirez the best bang for the buck in MLB. At his present 14 mll/yr he already is the best bang for the buck.

From 2020 to 2022 Verdugo was ranked 23 in WRC+ out of 39 players with qualified innings.

That's the definition of avg.

Ramirez could have gotten more on the open market; he is very happy in Cleveland and did not want to leave. His deal is a textbook definition of hometown discount.

I guess Betts and Bogey weren't happy in Boston. That's why I'm not sad they're gone.

Again I disagree, but Dugo haters have been here since the Betts' trade.

I don’t hate Dugo at all. He has been one of our better hitters. His power is just average at best. Overall, he has been slightly better than average while a Red Sox. My point is that we are rolling out an anemic lineup. If Dugo is one of your better hitter, your offense isn’t very good.

First guy to ever have an off-year. Good point.

At 34, it usually isn’t an off year.

There was a clear decline in his performance. Had Bloom signed him and that decline continued, would you still be clinging to the “off year” defense?
