Mayer's OPS is now up to 996 after his recent HR splurge (3 in last 5 games). Had a 763 OPS at the end of April. Has a 1516 OPS over the last 6 games.

I’m still counting on June 6 as his ist game in Portland.

soxprospects updated their rankings with no Casas or Kelly, as they graduated.

YES! Drohan passed Perales, as well as many others. I caught grief for suggesting it might happen by their summer update.

1. Mayer

2. Blies

3. Rafaela

4. Yorke (jumped Mata)

5. Drohan (jumped Mata, Romero, Perales, Anthony, Walter and Paulino)

6. Mata

7. Romero (jumped Perales)

8. Perales

9. Anthony (jumped Paulino & Walter)

10. Walter

11. Paulino

12. Lugo

13. Valdez (jumped Wikelman)

14. Wikelman

15. Hickey (jumped 3)

16. E R-C

17. Jordan Jumped Murphy)

18. Murphy

19. Hamilton (jumped 6)

20. Abreu (up 3)

21. Coffey (up 1)

22. Meidroth (up 7)

Biggest drops:

Kavadas 20>27

Koss 28>34

Bonaci 22>25

Kavadas still has a big, long swing. We'll see if he can adjust over the summer and heat up a little. His OPS is 80 points higher in 23 than in 22 at AA.

Yorke deserves the 4 spot. He's been playing great this year.

The jumps for Drohan, Hickey, Meidroth, Abreu and Hamilton are appropriate. I like Meidroth, but I think they believe he's just an advanced college bat who is limited to 2B and will get stuck at the higher levels.

I think the Walter, Lugo, Paulino tier isn't very strong. There's a valid criticism to state that Valdez should have been above them as we know that he's at least a platoon MLB bat.

The development of Drohan is an exciting thing, hope he keeps it up. With Drohan and Bello, the Red Sox have two really good young SP for years to come, hopefully top of the rotation guys.

Maybe Mata and Walter can end up as top RP'ers, too.

Baseball America put this on the "Hot Sheet" today:

"HELIUM -- Roman Anthony, OF, Red Sox. Anthony’s numbers this season might not jump off the page, but scouts who have seen him believe the ingredients are there for a potentially special player."

Hickey and Meidroth were just promoted to AA.

@SoxProspects

Some early season promotions/movement today.

INF Edwin Diaz: AA -> AAA

C Nathan Hickey (#SP60 #15) A+ -> AA

2B/3B Chase Meidroth (#22) A+ -> AA

RHP Ryan Zeferjahn (#51) Activated from the 7-day IL (AA)

C Matt Donlan (AA) + LHP Skyer Arias (AA) -> Development List

@alexspeier

A bit of early season movement is coming today in the Red Sox system, with C Nathan Hickey and IF Chase Meidroth expected to move from High-A Greenville to Double-A Portland. Meidroth - a 4th rounder in ‘22- is hitting .338/.495/.459 w/more BBs than Ks. He needs to be challenged.

@alexspeier

Hickey, a ‘21 5th rounder - is hitting .294/.402/.588 for Greenville. He spent about half of last year in Greenville. Like Meidroth, his advanced approach likely requires the challenge of the upper levels. Portland’s staff also has two catching instructors.

I hope the promotions work out.

Hickey needs a lot of work behind the plate. There's a good chance he'll need to be moved off the position. Runners are 37/37 in SB chances this season against him.

Meidroth has a very advanced approach, but has a high GB% (kind of like what we saw with early Duran). We'll see if his numbers cool off a little.

These players were just too good to leave in A+.

Not a good night on the top of the farm...

Mata was rocked (6 runs in 2 IP 0n 6H and 3 BB.)

Fitzy homered.

Van Belle had almost identical numbers as Mata.

Siked homered.

Kavadas 0-4 w 4 Ks

Rafaela 1-5 w 2B

Binelas 2-4

GRE won with Bonaci & Erro homering.

Jordan 3-5

Paulino 1-3 w 2BB and 10th SB

SAL won as E R-C struggled but allowed just 2 ERs in 4 IP.

2-4 Anthony & Coffey

1-3 w BB Bleis

Anyone moving up to AAA to make room for these two?

Not yet.

Meidroth will probably split time at 2B/3B/DH with Yorke and Lugo. The promotion makes room for Bonaci in GRE who is coming back from injury.

Scott and Hickey probably share time behind the dish 50/50. Hickey has the high upside, but needs lots of work. Scott can play a little LF still too.

@IanCundall

Red Sox MiLB leaders for average FB velo in April:

1 Alex Hoppe - 97.1

2 Luis Guerrero - 96.7

3 Brayan Bello - 95.7

4 Bryan Mata - 95.6

5 Cam Booser - 95.5

6 Ryan Fernandez - 95.5

7 Chase Shugart - 95

8 Luis Perales - 95

9 CJ Liu - 94.8

10 Felix Cepeda - 94.7

No surprise, but Shane Drohan had the largest avg. fastball velo gain (vs. 2022) in the Red Sox system in April at 1.8 mph. Three other players gained >1 mph: CJ Liu, Juan Daniel Encarnacion & Rio Gomez. 2 other noteworthy gainers: Jedixson Paez & Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz at 0.7 mph.

So, was someone demoted, IL'd or let go from POR?

They don't need the room. WIth those additions and subtractions the Portland roster stands at 28 men.

A flip from last night as the top of the minors went 2-0 and the bottom 0-2:

Woo won Dermody going 6 (9 hits but no BBs and only 2 ER)

Hamilton with a big 3 run jack in the 8th to win the game.

Crook 1-2 with HR and BB & SF

Abreu 0-2 w 2 BB

POR won in 10 as Drohan actually looked human (5 IP, 5H, 2ER, 3BB, 6K)

Joely & Webb got holds, Guerrero a BS and Fernandez with the 2 IP win.

Yorke continues to rake: 2-4, HR and 2 BB (up to .922 OPS, now)

Meidroth 3-6 (1.000 OPS)

Rafaela 0-5 (.613 OPS)

Kavadas 0-3 w 2BB

Hickey 1-4 w BB

Binelas 1-2 w HR and BB

McDonough 2-5

Bonaci went 2-4 w BB in GRE's loss.

Ferguson 2 BBs and his 16th SB

Salem got a nice start from Rogers (5IP, 1H, 0ER, 3BB, 6K)

Bleis went 3-5 (up to .698 after a slow start.)

Ravelo 1-3 w HR and BB

Anthony 1-4 w BB

Mata, Walter and Murphy are sure doing their best to fall off any ranking lists.

Walter got shelled, tonight and was at 5.16, beforehand.

Mata 5.61

Murphy 7.88

(Wikelman is at 9.00)

What happened?

Ceddanne Rafaela went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and stole SEVEN bases (17) in today's 6-2 Portland Sea Dog loss.

Kavadas had 3 BBs.

He seems to be finding his BB groove, again.

His long swing is killing him, he either walks or strikeouts. When it comes to Kavadas, one phrase no one will ever say is “quick to the ball”!!!!

They took away 1 of his steals yesterday on indifference, but still pretty good.
