Very good way to put it. The flip side is that good pitchers who don't make mistakes can get good hitters out.

Anytime a pitcher throws a curve or a slider, there's a chance it will hang. This year a batter like JD would pop it up or hit it foul. Not so with Judge.

Vehemently disagree. This is his 2d freaking season, and has the 4th best WAR on the pitching staff.

That's interesting that he has the 4th best WAR on the Sox staff. The Sox have the 5th best record in the AL East. Whitlock's ERA is 6.97 in his last 7 games. 12 hits in last 10.1 innings.. He tries to slip some slop by Judge, the best HR hitter in the game. He is a simpleton for trying that. He also may be worn out from the double inning usage in late August/early September. What does him being a second year pitcher mean?

Better to say he has the 4th best WAR on a pitching staff with the 14th best ERA in the AL. So good point.

2d year is relevant because Bloom picked him up on rule 5, so he was kind of an unknown and to some degree still is. Closer? Longish reliever? Starter? 2d year is also relevant because no one knows for sure what his durability is. He's started 9 games, pitched in 30, with 77 innings total. Only four starters--Pivetta, Wacha, Hill, and Eovaldi--have pitched more innings. That said, 77 innings ain't that many if it includes 9 starts. Pivetta has thrown 160 innnings.

All that said, he has one of best repertoires on the team--maybe the best. But, as we saw tonight, he can make mistakes.

Bogey is doing his contract run. I don't know what Devers is doing, but he still has another year.

Bogey is the better overall player of the 2. Devers is not consistent enough for me for a 300M plus contract

Can Barnes keep them from scoring? I doubt it.

Avoid walks/HBP, make them earn anything. No errors behind him will help

He's back to just knuckle curves and fastballs, which are his strength. Whoops. He just got a strike on a freaking changeup!!!!!

1-2-3 for Barnes. Not too shabby. Where the heck did that changeup come from? That can be a very effective pitch, even righty vs. righty.

No question Judge is MVP. Imagine this Yankem team's offense w/o Judge this year. In fact, he may be the most MVP of any player in years.

NY will have to pony up $$.

Raffy is the better hitter and four years younger. But I too don't see paying him 300M+.

For what they are paying him next season, Barnes needs to be a contributor, not a liability.

For sure. $8M is a lot for a reliever. The flip side, however, is that it's remotely possible that his mojo is back--which I define as a combination of good pitches and confidence. What once was lost--which meant a lot of money down the drain, just might be found.

Some guy on MLBTR projected $300M/8.

Well, it's for sure his agent would sneer at that, but I'm not so sure it wouldn't be a fair offer. That's over $35M/year.

If that's the case, maybe the SOX should go after him and then trade Devers next season. I like the fact that Devers is only 25, but Judge could do serious damage at Fenway for quite a while. Just a thought.
