On day one he had two experienced closers in Barnes and Robles. He also had a dire need for Whitlock and Houck to pitch more than 1 inning every so often as is the norm for closers. When they pitched, they helped minimize the other teams' scoring.

Try this on for size. In the games in which Whitlock pitched this year, the Sox are 14-6. In the games in which Houck has pitched, the Sox are 20-11.

Get back to me when you can explain that success rate on how Cora used them.

You have given the same speel 125 times already, and that doesn’t change the fact that the Red Sox started out 10-19, and the backend of the BP was a reason why. Barnes was left off a postseason roster he was so good, and counting on him, and Robles to anchor the backend of the BP was not sound judgement. Experienced doesn’t mean being good, and those two are examples of that being the case.

Credit where credit's due: Kudos to Bloom for acquiring Wacha; he's been excellent.

...and Schreiber, Refsnyder, Strahm and to some extent Hill, Pham, McGuire (for Diekman) and carry-overs Pivetta, Whitlock and Kike.

Nobody ever said Bloom hasn’t made good acquisitions,so I think listing them all is for your benefit, but results in the standings is what most want to see.

Huge 2 out pitching scenario here. Nice f'ing work JS and KP

There is no one on base, so the worst that can happen is a solo, there's that

Arroyo wants to play everyday. He's earned it.

Got to rest, SS. Can't play every day in the Park that Ripken built

3 up/3 down and the season will continue. Nominal gain in overall terms but better than a loss that would have ended any dreaming.

Verdugo was jogging for that like wtf

It sort of hit at the base of the wall and did not rebound hard. It did look a little odd, but I didn't put that one on Dugo

He was jogging for that ball as soon it was hit. No effort whatsoever. If he was playing hard that was a double
