Bogaerts is somehow managing to not drive in runs in spite of an .837 OPS with RISP and .858 with men on.

 

Goddamn it's a funny game.

I totally agree, but that does not lessen the need to hit with men on, and those that don't are open to criticism.

 

(Just don't call them "chokes.")

 

I agree that hitting with MoB is not a specific skill set, I do think the circumstances of hitting effectively are a bit enhanced with men on. The pitcher is under some stress and distracted to a degree by the men on. The defensive shifts or alignments are different . Playing for the DP pulls the SS and 2Bman closer to the bag opening the gaps to RF and LF. Subtle differences

 

Regarding "chokes". Some guys would be better hitters with MoB , and lessen their LoB totals, if they would "choke" up on the bat an inch and put the ball in play. Like short putts in golf never dropping , Ks with MoB don't advance runners or score runs, except in the rare cases of catcher errors

Putting the ball in play against the sox is very effective given their keystone cops fielding!
