Unfortunately, I could believe what I was seeing. They squeaked this one out, but they need a hammer in the pen if they want to beat teams like Toronto and the Yankees.

Congratulations, Max. You will get your thread tomorrow.

Hey, please don't. I already said that after the Sox got the 3 run lead. I just wanted the Sox to win, and I certainly don't think I'm right about much. I just like to comment, argue, whatever.

It tells you a lot about this pen that letting Strahm pitch two innings with 40+ pitches was best option to close this game…

Any bullpen can carry an underperforming reliever that they hope can bounce back and at least contribute.

The problem with the Sox is they have four such relievers…

I’d be happy to make a thread like that everyday if it meant a Red Sox win. I wasn’t going to ask you to make the thread if they lost. Losing the game hurts enough. Let’s keep winning! And let’s get a closer!

And Verdugo delivers on that exact same fastball JDM can't hit.

Fantastic!!! He's had a rotten season, but not lately, and that just might be one of the biggest hits of the season if the Sox can win this game.

LOL

It's incredible that we only have Brasier to protect a lead. We are talking about a 200 M team here. Incredible.

The ump really f***ed the Sox. Bobby D was forced to swing at that 1-2 pitch from the bad 1-1 call. Totally changed that AB

Verdugo with a big game!

Under performing suggests they are better than this.

I believe this is who they are, average middle relievers being asked to get the big outs at the end of the game.

We lack the personal for the late innings.

Hopefully Bloom thinks as well that this is the major thing to be addressed before the ASG.

C'mon, quit picking on pigs. They're actually quite smart and they make excellent ham and bacon.

I would refer to the SOX BP as the Panda Pen. Harmless and cuddly.

Hold it. What the hell is Schrieber doing in there? Get him his own pen.

Wonder whether Henry is still paying that guy.

Fantastic. I would do the same for any win.

I think Schreiber should close. No one on this team is remotely as good for one inning. Two nights in a row he shut down the Jays best hitters. But I'm fine with whatever Cora decides.

Strangely enough, I disagree. If Sale is in any way competent starting, I see Whitlock, Houck, and Schreiber (the best of the three) taking care of business in the last two innings. Houck doesn't have great stuff, but he is fearless. Whitlock has excellent stuff, but is still young (2d season). And this year Schreiber is unfreakingreal.

Wasn’t available (unless he pulled a Bugs Bunny cartoon and both pitched and caught; I don’t think Kevin quite has the speed for that).

I forgot he was catching, but I do like the Bugs Bunny concept.

My comment reflects the now, as the ill equiped bullpen continues to blow winnable games.

Your comment refers to the what could be, and I too would be happy with that trio at the back of the bullpen

The now should have included 2 of the 3 in Toronto, but Houck ducked out. Thus my claim that with Houck the Sox take that series, which followed hard upon taking 3 of 3 @ Cleveland, another winning team, taking 3 of 3 vs. the Tiger, and taking 2 of 3 vs. the Cardinals, a winning team.

I was not sold on Houck closing, but now see I was wrong. He has saved 6 games without a blown save and his ERA for June is 1.54. His first save was June 10 @ Seattle, and, including that game, the Sox have gone 13-5, which would have been 14-4 if Houck were vaccinated, against the Jays, Guardians, Tigers, Cardinals, Mariners and the lowly A's. That's what one arm can do for a bullpen.

You keep stating this as if it is a fact when it is certainly not. There is absolutely no way of knowing whether houck would have closed that game out or not. Pure speculation.

I like our chances with that trio.

That said if Bloom trades for a proven 9th inning reliever, that would shuffle everybody down 1 spot, to make an even more formidable bullpen.
