Not bashing Cora at all. Nine different pitchers on this team have had save opportunities. I thought Houck was valuable as a long reliever, but he's closing now because no on else has been able to.

When the SOX have a 5 or 6 run lead in the 9th, the league rules may not consider it a save situation, but maybe Cora should.

We seem to have had more than our share of losses like today's game, so I'm chalking these wins up as evening things out, but you are right. We can't count on racking up wins like this vs good teams, although the Cards are as good or better than some we will be facing.

Agree. In this series, the three starters gave up 6 runs 17.1 innings. The bullpen gave up 14 runs in 9.2 innings.

 

But, as you said, playing a good team like the Cards and winning 2 of 3 is a big plus.

 

This was mostly a Pivetta/Vazquez win.
