Bogey had First and third with one out and second and third and no outs and produced one run.

I'm not usually one to harp on rbi's, but yes, Bogey needs to start producing in those situations more often.

I’ll agree with that.

I like Bogey too, but my guess is he wants more than he's really worth.

Story has been moved to a different league (and a whole bunch of new pitchers) and a new position. Nevertheless, his WAR to date is 1.5 to Bogey's 2.7.

So, yes, give me Bogey over Story, but right now I'm rooting for Story simply to play well and help the Sox.

I'm hopeful both will see their WAR numbers soar over the remainder of the season.

I do think Bogey may want more than what he's worth, but all that really matters in the end is how much one GM is willing to pay vs what Bloom & Henry will agree to pay. That number may be closer to Story's contract than Correa's or Seager's.

He's still the best player on the SOX and every team in MLB would love to have him.

Absolutely.

I hope the Sox sign him to a long term deal, but at some point move him from the hot corner to 1st base.

Our 3-6 hitters LOB:

4 JD

3 Bogey

5 Verdugo

3 Story

They are 3 for 12 with 1 rbi.

I'm bothered by Story's propensity to strike out. Other than one flurry, he has not produced. Bogey is still a consistent hitter but his role going forward with probably be at 2nd base and/or designated hitter over the next 5 seasons. I would think that might lower his value to any team, but as you have said, he is worth what the market says he is worth. I am all for the Sox making him a solid offer in line with his value but not more in pay or years.

Those errors are extremely frustrating. Just when he seems to be showing improvement, he goes through a few weeks of silly errors.

Again, if you take away everyone's best 7 game stretch, Story still is among the team's rbi per PA leaders. He's also been a big plus on D, but yes, the K's and lack of hits are frustrating and worrisome.

He was not come close to reaching expectations as he nears the 1/12th point of his contract.

That is really comforting to know as Story Land continues to stay closed more days then he is open.

Christ can we get on a 10 game game winning streak? Is that difficult?

I think it will be great to see the Red Sox at least play a winning team this weekend.

Bad loss.

But, I have to be honest, the A's had their ace on the mound and the Sox had our #5 starter (once Eovaldi and Whitlock return).

It is written nowhere that the Sox are entitled to take six straight from the A's. As it was, the Sox definitely had a shot at winning despite the passed ball and error--thus 2 unearned runs--and despite going 1 for 14 with RISP.

Stuff happens. It's called baseball.

Well to be honest the A’s had 2 minor leaguers going the first 2 games, so I guess they are entitled to use their so called ace. Imagine the gaul to use their Ace against our #5 . Maybe the Sox should file a complaint with the commissioner’s office.

True dat. You want the Cardinals to come in and sweep the Sox so you can say, "I told you so." You also seem to think John Henry, Chaim Bloom, and Alex Cora--all of whom established their competence in seasons past--are just too dumb to be put in charge of this team.

Believe it or not--and you don't--these are the good times of the John Henry era. 22 years of the Sox being better than the Yankees, the very same team that has won 27 World Series, most of them during the 86 years of the so-called Curse of the Bambino. I like that rivalry, FWIW, and this year am fine with the Yankees having a season that looks to be as good as the Sox in 2018. As I think you also emphatically believe, it's a lot more fun beating the Yankees when they are good (and usually are) than any other team that is lousy.

Speaking of which, did you catch the wild card game last year? No? Too bad--really good game. So was the ALDS vs. the Rays, who had the best record in the AL and still lost to the Sox, 3 games to 1.

You are unbelievable to think I want the Cardinals to come in, and sweep the Red Sox. I just want to see the Red Sox play a good team for once. I don’t know why you keep calling Henry- Bloom, and Cora dumb. I don’t think anyone agrees with you, but you are entitled to your opinion.

Blackburn ain't no ace??????? He has the 6th best WAR (2.6) among AL pitchers and the 10th best ERA.

The word is gall, and doesn't fit this situation. It was Blackburn's day in the rotation--and also Hill's.

17 men LOB with our 3-6 batters. Only 2 rbi.

It happens.

As a team the Red Sox stranded 13 runners today but in losing a three-game weekend series the Seattle Mariners outhit the Red Sox 24-18 while stranding 29 runners (and the Red Sox only 16).

Call it what you want, and file a protest with the commissioner’s office if you think the A’s had a competitive advantage using their #1 against our #5 even though it didn’t bother you that Pivetta went against a minor leaguer. Talk about making excuses. Get over it.

I'm not complaining. I like the trend we are on.

We've had our share of luck over the last month, so losses like this are expected.

It's you that needs to get over it.

Max made a good point about facing their ace and a good pitcher overall. Call it an excuse, if you want, but why go off like Max was crying to the Comish?

He actually ended his post with "Stuff happens. It's called baseball," and you act like he can't accept the loss.
