Sox are 50 games in at 23-27. They will hit the 100th game about July 29 against the Brewers. The trade deadline will be August 2 this year. By #100, do you think the Sox will be in competition for a WC , or never get up to that level this year? Bogey and others want to know

If MLB keeps a stat of which batter leads the league in being behind the count, it has to be Dalbec this season.

we are an old day NL team with Dalbec in the lineup. He literally hits what a pitcher used to hit.

Hold onto that question until after the west coast swing.

It's too early in the game to trade Bogey for him. Let's see where Greene is in the 5th inning.

Oh, wise one, you must have studied Greene's tendencies

Even if they have a successful west coast trip, do you really feel that they are a championship caliber team?

If yes, then you add, if not, you sell.

I'd still trade for the guy. I'd give the Reds the SOX best two pitching prospects for him.I doubt the Reds would be interested.

I believe the Reds have ownership issues ( as in no money for a BBteam). They may or may not be sellers of any young guys under team control , except for a Votto rental which would not be useful.

It may just be the Reds but Whitlock seems to get his fair share of ground balls, thereby DPs. When other Sox pitchers get baserunners they tend to yield flyballs, some of them uncatchable

I thought you answered your own question.

No, I wanted to know if you feel this is a championship caliber club

I do remember that in 2006 the Cards finished the season only 5 games above .500 and ended up winning the WS. So, who knows.

Regardless of any particular outcome of the West Coast trip, this is not a championship caliber team. The question was are they a #6 playoff slot team. You will know that far better at the All-Star break. That's when the selling/buying will begin to bubble.

Regardless of whether they claim the 6th seed or not shouldn't really change whether you believe they are championship caliber or not.

Any team that makes the PO's has a chance of winning it all. Many times in baseball history the best teams during the regular season don't win it all.

Would you state that a team that finishes the season 5 games over .500 is a championship caliber team? Probably not and you would have been wrong.

Btw, after the 2006 regular season there were 3 division leaders that had 96, 97, and 97 wins.

I thought it was pretty clear " ...this is not a championship caliber team"

Understood, and I've been wrong many times in my life. But in this situation being wrong could cost the opportunity for a major haul of young talent.

If the SOX get a HAUL, it has to include OATES.
