Because even though the sox are pretty bad with guys like devers and xbo, they will almost certainly be worse without them. I don't know many people that enjoy being part of a s***** team that is resigned to playing out the string.

Or the Sox let Bogaerts walk and use the money to sign Judge…

Do you mean for the rest of this season or for 2023 and onward?

I was speaking about the rest of this season......

That’s an insane reach.

Judge is having his own contract squabbles. Is he taking down the rest of the Yankee lineup?

The difference is that one team has the best record in baseball while the other is in last place.

Should the Yankees continue to be in a playoff position it is highly unlikely that they would be sellers at the deadline and jettison Judge.

Should the sox continue to flounder in the vicinity of baltimore in the standings, they certainly would be likely sellers at the deadline. That would/could be disheartening to the rest of the team.....

If the sox were inclined to lay out the type of money it may take to secure Judge's services, why wouldn't they have spent it on mookie? Or just spend it on xbo?

I can’t speak for management, but when Mookie hit free agency, the Sox were over the limit 3 straight years and needed to get under the tax threshold, which was impossible to do at that time while retaining Mookie.

As for Judge vs Bogaerts, it’s possible the Sox prefer an OF/DH type now that Story is on board…

Really I should say “if they prioritized” instead of “needed” for that tax threshold stuff. Since they did go under, I assume that was the goal. But I don’t have insider info.

I do have an Edit function that works part time, however…

The main flaw in this theory - and there are multiple - is the very people you say are disheartened by the team performance are the ones most responsible…

That doesn't make it a flaw in any theory.

Will you be leading off, batting clean up or pitching the 9th?

At the moment, I could probably do a better job at batting leadoff or pitching the 9th than what we're putting out there.

That's not saying much, so might my grandmother and she's been dead for 30yrs

LOL. This team has fractured. Last year, there weren't contract concerns or squabbles. Now the futures of the two pillars on which this team is built are truly in focus as guys about to be dealt. That really can change a team's mindset

I do wonder how much of a factor that is playing in the team's mindset. It's kind of interesting, though, that the two pillars are two of the very few guys who are batting well.

There's a long season to go. Fractured teams often have ways of repairing themselves. The Yankees were fractured last year for most of the first half of the season then had a monster 2nd half. Don't count us out.

This doesn't make sense. They are sad that some guys may be theoretically leaving at the end of the year. I could see that affecting Raffy, but not sure why that would bother Story/JBJ/Kiké/Dalbec...

I think we're trying to make the same point.

Tim Hyers calls Boston Red Sox hitting coach Pete Fatse ‘brother in this game,’ confidence in successor despite offensive struggles

“Pete is really smart,” Hyers said. “He’s a great hitting coach. I have all the confidence in the world in Pete. He made me a better hitting coach being a partner with him and co-worker. He’s really, really good. I’m sure him being the head guy, there’s things he’s going to have to learn and things you don’t see until you walk in those shoes. Adjustments to make. To me, it’s brand new every year. You have to maneuver how you want to help each hitter and how you want to help this team. And what’s the makeup of your team? When they go through slumps, how do you help them? Is it push or back off? What do you do?” Hyers also added, “I had all the confidence in the world with Pete. They’re going to be in great hands. So if there was a time for me to walk away, it was the time.”

Hyers said he’s sure the Red Sox have implemented some new systems and hitters are still adjusting.

“But overall, hitting is down this year,” Hyers said. “There’s a few clubs tearing it up. But for the most part, there’s a lot of clubs that are trying to find their footing here early in the season. I think pitching has put it to us offensively. No excuses, but I do feel that kind of the late start, maybe some of the hitters didn’t get their footing, their timing like they are usually accustomed to. And that could play a part in it.”

Manfred, killing baseball since 2002. Manfred negotiated MLB's first drug testing agreement with the Major League Baseball Players Association.

That deserves one Rafael Palmeiro finger waggle.

The Sox still have a lot of work to do, but what a difference a couple of weeks can make.

Since May 10, the Sox are scoring 6.45 runs/game and are 8-3. This is more like the team most of us were expecting.

The pen could still use some improvement, but when the offense is scoring like it should, the pen giving up 1, 2, or 3 runs usually isn't that big of a deal.
