Houck should be in the bullpen, and he would be, if Bloom didn't forget to upgrade the rotation.

I like Houck in the pen and always have, but for some reason the Sox are trying to force him into the rotation.

I don’t think he is there because they ignored the rotation. I think he’s there because they want him there. I don’t like that move either…

Kike isn’t playing well, but the criticism was about clubhouse chemistry and how everyone who left was important to it and everyone who stayed wasn’t.

It’s fair to ask how we know who was and wasn’t important to clubhouse chemistry. Also how important said chemistry was on a 78-84 team…

The lowball offer to Bogey last offseason was just great for team moral, which I believe carried all through the season, and was made worse with how they handled the Vaz situation.

It's because they don't have any better options.

And another brilliant start for Eovaldi.

Six shutout innings, one hit , seven strikeouts. Could have went further if needed, but a Texas blowout. Also, not too much mocking Seager's contract lately. The Rangers are looking pretty good.

They really are, and I was one of the ones who mocked them for the big deals to Seager and Semien.

Even old friend Rich Hill went 6.2 innings today. I believe the last time a Red Sox starter went 6 was Bello on May 23. Lots of innings for the BP since then.

We're dead meat, let's face it. Sale will be gone a while and there's no pitching help coming. What you see is what you get. Ort is back, though.

Houck’s been mostly starting for four years now. He didn’t start in 2021 and 2022 because the 2023 rotation needed help.

This is the Sox giving him every opportunity to be a starter over multiple seasons…

I firmly believe this team has a strong chance to end up with a worse record than last year's 78-84.

Can Bloom possibly survive that?

So do I hear a “why didn’t we bring back Rich Hill”?

I had no idea the 2022 Sox were this popular. They certainly weren’t in 2022…

Do you think Henry wants another $240mill payroll?

His last start in 2022 was on May 8. He was the closer before injury ended his season.

I don't know if Bloom had any clear plan for him at all. His struggles second time through the order are well documented and not going away.

This team is a circus.

That's a fair question, but an equally fair question is whether he wants to keep finishing under .500 and getting booed whenever he appears in public.

I think he expected Bloom to trim payroll and win, not just the former.

No the point being that even Rich Hill went 6.2, and it’s been 2 weeks since anyone from the Sox went that far. Hill might have been better than Kluber though.

You keep saying that, but what were they replaced with? Even Bogey who has tailed off big time is better than what the Red Sox have keep trotting out there at SS. Evol, Wacha, and JD are all playing better than their replacements. It not that hard to understand why they keep getting mentioned.

The notion of trimming payroll and winning is absolutely the goal, but it’s not as easy as a lot of folks seem to think.

We out here in Internet Forum World seem to think it’s very easy. Just read this thread. All we had to do was bring back Eovaldi and Wacha and not sign Kluber. The easy argument against that is that’s exactly what 2022 looked like, and the subsequent argument is a lot of people are basing Wacha’s four year deal on one good month. Hanley Ramirez looked like a good deal after one month, too.

I have no idea how long Bloom sold Henry on his plan. But it’s possible Henry is more on board than most fans. I’m sure the booing bothers him less than you think; he’s saving enough money to hire his own cheering section…

Sure, I'll bet John breaks out a bottle of Dom Perignon every time he looks at the declining attendance and TV ratings.

Devers was part of the 2022 team too. I guess we should have been pissed when they extended him.

Have you read the game threads lately?

Maybe not, but that doesn’t mean he want to shell out a billion dollars every four years. Did he or did he not recently comment about ball players being expensive?

And gets a standing ovation everywhere he shows his face in public.

I honestly have never put much credence in what's said in game threads.

Yeah their credibility comes in waves, but those waves lately haven’t had much Devers Love…

And out of the kindness of his heart he upped ticket prices for this year.

Sure he did, and nobody says they aren't.

I have always thought that Henry considers himself a smart baseball guy and wants his team to win. I refuse to believe he's happy right now with the state of the team. We all saw what happened to Cherington.

Judging talent is a big part of the G.M.'s job. There are always going to be some hits and some misses. But the G.M. has to be accountable for the product on the field.

That clinches it - he cares what fans think.

Of course that kind of thing really only applies to season ticket holders. Far too many tickets get sold through second party sellers who up the price as they please. The Sox themselves used to run one, but I don’t know if they do any more.

And if a GM judged Eovaldi to be a high risk for injury and therefore a risky multiyear deal, would you agree or disagree?

I'm sure the Sox ticket scalpers are not a happy lot right now either.
