He was okay in '19 (101 ERA+/ 1.29 WHIP/ .722 OPS Against) and had just 37 IP from '20-'21, due mostly to injuries.

 

I'm not tooting his horn, but I'd axe 2-3 other guys before him.

How he is actually pitching right now is what is important and it's been terrible. Bottom 1% in xSLG, EV, Hard Hit%. He's getting rocked. Move on.

Sometimes I really think you have to be a masochist to be a baseball fan. It's a game that often makes you feel like a little kid who just had his candy stolen.

 

Meh. This current pain comes on the heels of a very surprisingly successful postseason in which the Sox had a late surge to get the wild card, then beat the Yankees and Rays to get to the ALCS, where the Astros finally eliminated them.

 

Let's not forget the best Sox season ever--108 wins before taking 3 of 4 vs. the Yankees, 4 of 5 vs. the Astros, and 4 of 5 vs. the Dodgers--less than 4 years ago, to say nothing of 2004, which ended the 86 year curse, 2007, and 2013.

 

My Uncle Ned was born right around 1915 and was a lifelong Sox fan who died in January 2004, which means he endured almost all (assuming his fandom began sometime around 1925) of the 86 years and certainly had no memory of the Sox winning the WS.

 

I suppose you have a point in that John Henry has raised our expectations to a level unimaginable just 20 years ago. So, yeah, I guess our candy has been stolen.

If pitchers were axed over tiny sample sizes like this, nobody would be left.

 

I'm not saying I think he's good- just that he's likely better than 2-3 guys in the pen, right now, and I might add Diekman to that list, soon.

He's still not the first RP'er I'd demote or cut loose. He's not even second.

 

Agreed. I've just always hated him except for approximately 5 minutes in the 2018 ALDS

It's just one loss , but blowing the lead with two out in the ninth always seems to hurt a little more.
