The ebbs and flows of a season are often schedule related . When you hit a softer stretch in the schedule, folks will perk up and comment on how much better the team is looking.

I would say that it's best business to wait until Memorial Day before proclaiming any season to be a failure.

I have to admit, I was one of, if not the first to give up on the 2019 team. I caught some flack for that, but I think it was at least after Memorial Day.

Sometimes, you just get a gut feeling- good or bad- on that year's team.

I can't tell much about this one, so far, and with Sale, Paxton and Taylor due back, at some point, and the short ST'ing, so much seems up in the air.

At the moment I'm mainly worried about Pivetta. We were counting on him to be one of our solid starters.

I hear you. The idea was Sale would replace Wacha or Hill, and Paxton the other.

While having Houck and Whitlock start fix that problem, I'm not sure the pen can withstand the loss of both.

Adding Hill and Wacha to the pen might work, but maybe not.

He really only had one really bad start - the home opener against the Twins. And if that pop up doesn't get lost in the sun, who knows how that game turns out. The Yankees start and the Blue Jays start are games where we should normally be able to give him run support, once the offense gets going. If he shits the bed next week against the Orioles, then I will be concerned.

I think the last two Pivetta starts have been discouraging.

Excluding the NYY start:

6IP, 12H, 6BB, 3.00WHIP, 6K, 9ER, 2HR, 13.50 ERA

Fair. I missed Wednesday's start when I was at the Celtics game. Only saw the final score

If you saw his last 2.2 IP, you might have thought he looked okay. It was his first 1.1 IP that did him and the Sox in.
