Hard to argue, except for maybe Manny.

Best 10 years stretches:

1.055 Pujols ('01-'10 first 10 seasons)

1.032 Manny ('99-'08)

.980 Miggy ('06-'15)

.962 Papi ('03-'12) and .956 over the last 14 years of his career

Manny also put up a 1.010 OPS over 15 seasons ('95-'09)

I'd take any of the 4 to build a franchise around. They're the definition of 'top shelf' when it comes to hitting a baseball.

Brain fart. I kept referring to him as Meggy. Went back and made corrections.

Tiger fans really only have Miggy's 3000th hit and 600th double to root for this season. Miggy, a great ballplayer and a pleasure to watch over the years.

$32M to watch him hit his milestones is high price. Another $32M next year to watch him do what?

This is the sad truth about long term contracts, especially when the Tigers didn't even get a sniff of the WS during Miggy's years.

Not sad for Miggy, of course, although, like all great players, he would have liked a WS ring. Somewhere Ernie Banks and Ted Williams are nodding their heads.

Please, no frozen head jokes.

8 yr, $248M deal. In his 6 years, the team has only finished above .500 once, in 2016 when they finished 2nd. Since then, 3 5th place finishes and 2 3rd place finishes.

I wonder how much revenue he generated for the team?

Can't answer that, but FWIW the Tigers reported net income of $31 mill for 2021, and have a current market value of $1.4 bill (#18 of 30), per Forbes.

I'm pretty sure he alone brought a lot of fans to the park. Most great power hitters do.

That was either terrible baserunning by JDM or terrible coaching by the third base coach for JD not to score on Arroyo's ground out to second. Cost Arroyo an RBI and cost the Sox a run.

They did get a sniff of the WS in 2013 when they lost to the Red Sox in the ALCS.

Fans of Detroit sports have more reason to get drunk than any other city with multiple pro sports teams.

Houston is right up there, after recent events.
