Montgomery with 2 wins and 11 scoreless to start his Cardinals career. Questionable, Brian.

But now you’re ignoring Harrison Bader’s defensive contributions. He hasn’t made a single error on the IL…

Time to move Chapman back to closer. Holmes is shook

Closing is a tough gig. Not too many guys can do it well for a good length of time. Holmes has good stuff , but he may have been a bit of a flash in the pan. It looks like it is starting to catch up with him. Chapman is not what he used to be , but he still has that track record of success in closing out games.

Clearly the league has adjusted to Holmes and are making him throw strikes rather than chasing. Holmes is having a problem with his control. And when you force a pitcher to throw more strikes, that pitcher is going to get hit more anyway.

To answer this idiot…

The league hasn’t “caught up” to Holmes. Holmes has lost the zone. When he came to Ny, Blake had him throwing his fastball and slider to the middle of the plate and the ball would move to the corners. Now, for some reason, Holmes isn’t doing that. He’s lost confidence in his control and now he looks to be dealing with confidence issues. He’s not getting hit hard. Martinez single was a weak grounder. He’s just not throwing strikes

Take a chill pill, Jackson. Geez, I make an observation on a relief pitcher and you freak out.

Remember what I said a few months ago: "the Yankees were peaking at the wrong time" and you said I didn't know what I was talking about. But how wise my words seem now!

Or you can look at it as the Yankees getting their s***** play out of their system at the right time

You jinxed them.

The pitching slump begins, today, too.

This was June 19th. My post was made in jest- someone called it "trolling," but I did think the Yankee pitching staff had been playing over their heads. I did not expect this steep of a decline:

Pre 6/19 > post 6/19

ERA: 3.29 (85 ERA-) > 3.86 (100)

xFIP 3.60> 3.79

WHIP 1.11>1.17

K/BB 3.4> 3.1

Hardly a "slump," but the ERA- sure took a major hit.

Meanwhile, Gallo is off to a hot start with the Dodgers and says they fixed a mechanical issue in his swing.

Maybe the "can't play in New York" thing has something to do with "bad coaching in New York". That's pretty much what Sonny Gray suggested.

Last check Gallo’s K rate in LA is higher than it was in NY

Fair point. Oddly enough when you look at Gallo's K/BB with the Yankees it's not really terrible. The BA sure is, though.

Aren't we talking about a tiny sample size, here?

Getting rid of Gallo was addition by subtraction.

But the point is about the Dodgers allegedly fixing a mechanical issue in his swing.

You're certainly right that the sample needs to get larger to be taken seriously.

Every team has blips. Some of them longer than blips. We shall see if this team can come back from it. Cabrera is a solid player who should get some run at 2b. Torres is essentially a walking corpse at 2b these days. I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear about season ending surgery with him.

From what was reported, the Marlins were willing to deal Pablo Lopez for Torres at the deadline until they “backed out”, presumably over Medicals. That’s why JMont was moved because they had too many starters. And as much as some people like to kill the JMont deal, German (who’s occupying JMont’s spot) has been nails since the trade

That's what I meant. Is the sample size large enough to know they "fixed" anything?

Just Torres?

That would have been a steal!

Florial coming up. Time for Peraza and maybe even Volpe too. Seriously, jump starting this offense is more important than anything right now

Florial strikes out too much. But anything would be an improvement over Hicks , who looks bewitched , bothered and bewildered.

That shouldn't be just dismissed out of hand. Players develop bad habits without realizing it . A good hitting or pitching coach can sometimes spot things that can make a difference.

True, and I think some teams make certain trades, just because they spot something they think can turn a player around.

We don't know if this is the case with Gallo, after just a couple weeks.

BTW, they might have spotted something, helped him correct it, but he might still fall prey to a new negative glitch in his game, and go back to sucking, again.

It's only anecdotal evidence from the player.

It does kind of support why the Dodgers scooped him up.

I was just mainly tweaking the Yankees. ;)

Hicks is the kind of guy who comes up small when you need him to just come up average. Yes, he had a big game tying HR against Toronto earlier this year, but other than that, he’s been as unclutch as one can be. He’s the guy who comes up with the bags packed and one out and you know he’s gonna GIDP. It’s addition by subtraction now. He’s no longer able to overcome his offensive deficiencies with good D. His D is now below average
