Mayer hit his 8th dinger. (2-3 w BB)

Kavadas upped his OPS to 1.286. Gotta think he's in Salem after the ASB.

Why would they demote Kavadas to Salem?

Interesting listen to the latest SoxProspects podcast. The guest was Brian Abraham, Director of Player Development. He noted that it was the minor league guys who make the call on when to move guys level to level. Brian would have the conversation with Chaim, but ultimately it is just to keep Chaim informed. Also, he stated that there is no real specific amount of at bats a hitter needs or appearances a pitcher needs at a certain level before a player advances. If a player needs to work on something and they are no longer being challenged at a level, they move the player up. An example he used was if a pitcher had a good fastball/slider combo, but needed to work on his changeup. At a lower level, he may be inclined to just stick with the FB/SL and may be less likely to work the changeup into the mix. With more advanced hitters, he'd be forced to add the 3rd pitch, so they'd move the guy up to face more advanced hitters. He said they are working with Rafaela on using his aggression on pitches in the zone, rather than just swinging at everything, noting his low walk rate. They are very happy with Bello's progression, being a late signee at 18 and how it's great for all of the international signees. It shows that if you put the work in that you can make it. Casas won't be brought up just to fill a hole, but only will be brought up when he's ready. Mayer is a 5 tool player, a great kid, a good listener and someone you don't want to miss an at bat of. Blaze doesn't get enough credit for his patience and pitch recognition, he's not a free swinging home run derby guy.

In Greenville, Kavadas with his 6th Greenville tater of the season and 20th tater overall this season. Plus he got 2 more walks today, that gives him 14 Greenville walks versus 14 Greenville strikeouts. Man is he a beast.

Northcut with his 25th tater of the season.

Sikes with his 2nd Greenville tater of the season.

Olds with 9 strikeouts in 4 innings.

That is a season record for Greenville.

@BeyondtheMnstr

Ceddanne Rafaela is “OK” after getting hit in the hand and the X-rays came back negative. He is listed as day-to-day but expects to play in Futures Game on Saturday.

Good stuff.

Ready when ready and not when need is great.

I'm not usually a fan of their interviews, but this one was pretty good. I wish they had asked about Yorke.

And now for something completely different:

@PortlandSeaDogs

Jay Groome is on the move to join the @WooSox!

Groome was 3-4 with a 3.52 ERA with the Sea Dogs this season and struck out 81 hitters in 76.2 innings.

Triston Casas went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles for FCL Sox today and started at 1B.

Bleis also went 2 for 4 with a stolen base.

@SoxProspects

Michael Gettys started his conversion from outfielder to relief pitcher last season. After a scoreless inning in today's 9-4 Greenville Drive win, he has a 3.34 ERA over 29.2 IP with 23 strikeouts to seven walks. He hasn't given up an earned run since June 12 (10.2 IP).

@brendan_camp

#RedSox promote Michael Gettys to Double-A Portland

At Greenville, Northcut with his 26th tater of the season, not a typo,

Also Kavadas with another walk tonight, and he hit his 7th Greenville tater of the season.

Good thing some nice things are going on somewhere.

Come on my man! You gotta keep the faith. Yes the rays swept us four straight games!

But they beat 3 triple a pitchers and then the crack bullpen blew yet another game!

I thought Winkowski pitched well. He is developing into a mlb pitcher before our eyes.

Crawford was doing great through 6 innings. Best game I have ever seen him throw! Why we brought him out for the seventh without having somebody else warmed up in the bullpen is a question only Cora can answer.

Good things going on here. A typical season is filled with peaks and valleys. You can’t let the valley bring you down.

We need to focus on more productive things, like how to get brazier off the roster and Soto and two quality right handed relievers on the roster!

Northcut with 25 HR, 36 K%, 283 OBP, 112 wRC+ is trying to be the first two true outcomes player HR or K. I respect it.

Winckowski and Crawford both had QS. Hard to blame them for the loss. The bottom half of the order did them no favors.
