Voit traded for Padres RHP Justin Lange. Rated Padres' 8th best prospect by MLB Pipeline, 13th by Keith Law. Write up on Lange is that he has the best stuff in the system but lack of command, and that he is more likely to end up as a back-end bullpen piece rather than a starter. Padres also agreed to eat all of Voit's salary in the deal.

I really like Voit. He was a hidden gem and I wish him well for the padres. He was one of my favorites.

The Voit deal with the Cardinals was an odd trade of hidden gem for hidden gem…

So predictions for OD lineup

1. Lemahieu 3B

2. Judge RF

3. Rizzo 1B

4. Stanton LF

5. Gallo CF

6. Donaldson DH

7. Torres 2B

8. IKF SS

9. Higgy C

Bench

Hicks OF

Gonzalez UTIL

Rorveldt or other backup C

1 other multi-use player, preferably left handed

Defense gets a major boost with IKF at SS and Higgy at C. Gallo in CF is also a boost to a degree over an aging and chronically injured Hicks. Stanton is actually a good OFer, but he may have injury woes the more he plays out there. Donaldson will see time at 3b and 1b. Lemahieu will see time at all 4 IF positions. I put Gonzalez on there not because I think he is good, but his positional variability means we may only have to carry 12 position players at times. Hicks in the lineup means we will have 3 lefties, which is a good thing and something we will likely see against tough righties like Eovaldi outside of opening day

Marwin was the Opening Day leftfielder for a club that fell two wins shy of the pennant last year. Then he still had a game-winning hit in the World Series!

So after all the posts about the Sox starting the “inferior defender” Bogaerts at SS over Story, you then think the Yankees should start LeMahieu at 3b over Donaldson?!?!

DJ's a three-time Gold Glove second baseman. I knew this a long time ago, but didn't want to tell any Yankee officials because they were wasting him at first base.

Donaldson has only one time had a negative UZR. Decline or just a bad season? Too early to tell.

But if UZR is a good judge, LeMahieu is average to below at 3b. Not at all a Gold Glove Pedigree. His career UZR at 3b is actually worse than Bogaerts’ is at shortstop…

Donaldson posted a -19UZR last year. He’s slipped a bit. DJ has gold glove pedigree. I can foresee a time split there

No he didn’t. He posted a -6.2 UZR.

Sorry, that’s what I meant.

Ultimately, Donaldson has been used as a 3b/DH with Cruz taking the bulk of the duties prior to his trade. I want Donaldson’s bat in the lineup, and part of it will be enabling him to stay healthy. He has recurring calf issues.

He’s gonna start every game vs lefties, that’s for sure, either at 3b or 1b. I’d start him at DH for every game Stanton is in the OF. He starts whenever Rizzo needs a breather. Plus, these are the Yankees, someone will get hurt. When they do, he’ll have a set position. Ultimately the Yanks have 10 bats they’ll need to get regular work from and until they have an injury, they can rotate them through to ensure players stay fresh

One item her thing the Yanks added here is contact. Look at these K rates

Subtracted

Urshela 24%

Voit 30.7%

Sanchez 27.5%

Added

IKF 13.3%

Donaldson 21%

Rizzo 15.1%

Surprisingly, IKF had a similar walk rate to Urshela, rizzo’s is better than Voit’s and Donaldsons is way better than Sanchez. More contact, more walks, better D

Yanks usually don't make a big deal about making an offer unless it is one they expect the other to accept.

It better be mammoth!
