We're only up 2 in the loss column to Toronto.

TOR still has 7 games with the Twins and 7 with the O's, but the rest is very tough:

7 NYY

6 TBR

They start an 8 game road trip tomorrow at NYY for 4 then 4 at BAL.

Keep in mind it is Labor Day tomorrow and the Red Sox still have not won enough games to insure a .500 season . Maybe we get that done before the play-in WC game

It's still very possible the Yankems are the team that doesn't make the PO's.

The big question going into tomorrow's game against the Rays is which other player will the SOX lose because of Covid?

We are the tipping point on COVID. One more key player, and we could be toast.

I'm hopeful the rest will bring back a better Bogey- wrist healed and all.

We have a lot of days off in the middle of September.

We need to stay focused, play our best players and stop this 6th starter thing.

I'd try Seabold in Pivetta's slot, but no promises we do any better than what we just tried. Maybe we don't need a 5th starter until SEA.

I think this loss is one of the hardest to accept because it breaks the momentum of winning while the primary opponents lose, and we continue with the same problems seen all year.

Falling behind quickly, become dependent on a perfect bullpen, leave RISP innings 1-5 before making a move. Poor defense, not just errors but misplays or lack of athleticism to make plays currently just out of reach. Also playing guys like Arauz and Motter while Jose Iglesias became available.

Indeed, especially if TOR beats the hell out of 'em.

Id prefer the Yankees either do not get the wildcard or they're tied for the second wildcard spot. Facing Cole in a one-game elimination series would be a tough hill to climb.

That would be great to see the Yanks and Toronto have to play-in for the WC game vs the Rays... errr, I mean the Sox.

Just got in from mowing the yard and I see that the Sox had a chance to win before they brought in Valdez in the ninth. It was 6-0 when I went to mow. Wow. Horrible starting pitching and horrible relief in the ninth cost them the game. Of course, having second and third and no outs early in the game and not scoring was also costly.

Lots of chances:

1st: 2 on 1 out

Dugo lines out/ Plawecki grounds out

2nd: 2nd and 3rd and 0 outs

Lopez K, Arauz fly out, Schwarbs ground out

3rd: man on 1st 1 out and 2nd with 2 out

Plawecki fly out

4th: 2nd and 3rd and 1 out

Arauz fly out/ Schwarbs Ks

5th: After JD's double & Plawecki's rbi single- 2nd & 3rd 2 out

Dalbec flies out

6th: After JD's 2 run HR, Verdugo 2Bs - 1 out

Plawecki & Sahe ground out.

7th: Motter walks with 1 out and gets picked off

8th: Renfroe singles with 1 out

JD & Verdugo ground out

9th: Plawecki lead off single

1-2-3 outs

Every inning, we had opportunities lost.

When is Bogaerts eligible to return?

They yanked him in the August 31st game, so assuming he has passed all subsequent protocols, September 9th? (Maybe the 10th?)

Arroyo's last game was 8/26. He must be real close.

Meh. A slob started and gave up 5 runs. Sox never led.

It's a miracle we were in it until the 9th, but we did waste scoring opportunities in all 9 innings.

Finally a game summary I can agree with. Sox were 3 for 18 with RISP and Cleveland was 7 for 18. But it was astounding the Sox came back, that the bullpen went 6 innings giving up the 1 run, etc.
