I keep expecting ERod to "get over" the whole COVID and side effect issues.

He starts to look good, then it gets messy, then he's back to looking like he's starting to turn it around, again.

I try to cut his some slack. I mean, the team just plain won a whole bunch of times, when he pitched for the 2 seasons before the mess that was 2020. The team went 19-4 and 26-8 in his starts, those two years. That's 45-12!

I know winning is a team stat, but he must have been doing something right, because he was not leading the team in run support, those 2 years.

As bad as he has looked, this year, we are 15-9in his starts, which included winning 5 of his first 6 starts. At the point, the team had gone 50-13 in his last 63 starts. They've gone 10-8 afterwards.

I'm not defending the guy. He's been a mess way too often, this year, but he did have some serious COVID-related health issues that nobody really knows the long term effects can be.

based on one game? lol

Of course not. I'm being hopeful for them the rest of this game, and I'm thinking they may not get many more chances, unless they do something, tonight, unless Kike and Arroyo are out long.

Absolutely astounding how you guys jump all over ERod while the lineup, going against a guy with an awful record, has 1 hit, Dalbec's double, in 5 innings.

Schwarber, Bogie, Devers, Verdugo, Vazquez, and Duran are hitless. I exempt Munoz and Arauz because we already know they stink.

The one proven winner we have.

It's the way of the game thread. Knee-jerk extremism.

At times, they jump ship over one PA or pitch thrown.

I pounce on ERod at every opportunity, but tonight that would be a big mistake. He's pitching well--as he in fact did in 3 of the 4 starts before tonight. He is good when he uses 3-4 pitches and has good command. Ramirez got that dinger, his 30th, and he got that single in the 1st, so clearly he sees ERod's pitches well. But none of the other Cleveland players are doing that well.

You know what I like about tonight for ERod? Absolutely no K's. Except for that changeup down the middle to Ramirez, he is making the Guardians hit his pitches, which is also why he has only thrown 65 pitches in 5 innings.

Would you look at that? The Cleveland shortstop caught that flip toss with his bare hand!!! Boy, wouldn't it be great if our infielders could do that? But, as we all know, it's a really, really tough play to make.

Allen is making the Sox lineup look just awful. Bogie is just clueless.

Leadoff walk to our 9th hitter with the top of the order facing Allen for the third time, and he just wipes them out.

But let's keep blaming ERod because he stinks. He's only pitching as well as Sale did last night.

Sad to watch Bogey struggle. He and JDM have been a shadow of themselves following the AS break. Did something during that event change their confidence?

And Arauz had to earn that walk with what, 7 or 8 foul balls?

The Sox seem to have a lot of trouble with soft tossing lefties, don’t they.

I wouldn't let E-Rod face the meat of the Cleveland order again. He was unable to get them out and it's risky to do that again.

Wrong again. For an Old Timer, you seem remarkably unobservant. Tonight ERod pitched better than Sale did last night. ERod showed a lot of guts tonight.

When two of your primary right hand hitters have been slumping and another out injured, it's difficult to put pressure on a lefty.

Oh, stop it. ERod pitched better tonight than Sale did last night. That immaculate inning masks that fact that Sale only went 5.1 innings and gave up the same 2 run dinger that ERod gave up tonight.

Bogey had a wrist injury that may still not be fully healed.

JD has hit about .800 very steadily, until 9 games back. He's not in a 2 month slump. He's in a 9 game slump.

Fact is we are 1 for 22 tonight against relatively soft throwing lefties. JD is sitting because he needs a break to get himself together and Bogey had one yesterday for the same reason.

Actually, and I know this will come as a huge surprise to you, Allen is pitching well. He has a good mix of breaking balls and is throwing them in the right places.

And he's doing it against a lineup that scored 12 runs last night. Yes, yes, I know, Kike and Arroyo are out tonight, but last night those two managed one stinking single between them. The big hitters--Schwarber, Devers, Duran, and especially Dalbec--are all back tonight. Oh, and the guy who went 0 for 5 last night is also out.

Wow. All the excuses in the world for horrible hitting, but total condemnation for good pitching by ERod.

It shouldn't surprise us, max.

Up is down.

Black is white.

Left is right and right is wrong.

Great play by ERod!! I have repeatedly excoriated him for piss-poor defense, but he has made two fine plays tonight. Yes, he was lucky to grab that grounder, but, unlike most pitchers, he turned around and made an accurate throw quickly to 2b to start the double play.

Too bad about the dinger, a changeup up in the zone.

The only explanation I have for seeing ERod out there for the 7th is that Cora does not believe the Sox will score any more runs.
