4:05 start time

Eovaldi- the Yankee killer.

The team is pulling together, nicely, with some newbies onboard and Houck & Valdez back in the saddle.

The bats are showing life- Kike is leading the way.

Devers is on pace for somewhere near 50 HRs and 150 RBI.

All is good in Red Sox Nation.

So my friend is too sick to go today so I'm scrambling to find somebody else. Still a beautiful day for a ballgame

I watched the game last night on my ROKU streamer. It appears that YES has contracted with Amazon Prime to televise many of the Yankem games this season. Because I live in CNY, I don't get any of the SOX/Yankem games on NESN.

Btw, the quality of the HD picture using the streamer blows away what I get on my cable service. A true 1080p telecast.

Televisions are now up to 8K resolution, and cable providers are still sending a 720p or 1080i signal to homes.

Yeah I don't have cable so I stream everything that I watch on TV. You really can't tell the difference

I could. The streaming picture on my TV was quite better than cable. Again, the streamer is sending a true 1080p signal.

Btw, Thunder, does NESN have an app platform where you can watch most of the SOX games. If they do, I'm pretty sure it's not cheap.

I know they do, but I don't know what it costs, because it requires you to sign in with your cable provider in order to watch. My cable provider, YouTubeTV, no longer carries NESN, so I cannot watch.

That sucks! Thanks. Enjoy the game today.

I was just checking Devers' stats since he was brought up to the SOX. One stat that I thought was ridiculously low was his lifetime OPS of 121.

Moon, am I correct thinking this is low for Devers, considering an average ballplayer is around 100?

121 means he's 21% better than average.

Don't forget this kids age when called up. He had an understandable "off" season at age 21 with a .731 OPS (94 OPS+) which brought his career number down. That was a 490 PA season.

I don't hold early seasons against players, especially ones brought up very young. Devers has always been playing above his age group since day 1 in the minors.

Devers also started out slowly, as he often does, in 2020, and the season was cut short before he could bring it up past 109(OPS+).

Here's his OPS+ since age 22:

133

109 (short season)

149

133 combined 2019-2021.

Also, Red Sox generally hitters have their OPS+ trimmed because Fenway is a hitter's park.

Although Raffy has a career 848 at Fenway and 853 on the road.

Good stuff as usual. Thanks, Moon.

As good as this season has been, it is still mathematically possible for the 2021 Sox to end up losing 100+ games, and to lose the season series to the Yankees . Not likely, but just warning the negative Nancies out there that all things are possible until the numbers move a little more, as with a 4 game sweep of the dumpster divers from the Bronx

Renfroe is getting a day off today, Chavis plays first base, Kike at 2b, and Cordero plays RF while Verdugo starts in LF. Weird, you would think that Cordero would play LF and Verdugo would play RF, no?

Another option would be, Kike in CF, Duran in LF, Verdugo in RF, Chavis at 2b, and Cordero at 1b. I'm getting the feeling that the Red Sox aren't impressed with Cordero's defense at 1b. They could have played Cordero's lefty bat at 1b yesterday against Cole, but instead went with Bobby D.

Kike

Duran

Bogie

Devers

JD

Dugo

Plawecki

Cordero

MC

Recently the bottom third of the order has done well, but not Plawecki or Cordero.

Great call by Plawecki (or Eovaldi) on that final strike for the swinging K.

Solid 1st for Eovaldi. Credit to Gardner for just making contact to get that single.
