Let's see what the new CBA brings, but I have to think Devers is a keeper.

 

He brings so much life and energy to the team. He's the spark.

 

He's also his own kind of hitter that often gets to an opposing pitcher in a groove, because he's not like a typical hitter. He can hit junk for HRs. He can hit balls 8 inches out of the K zone for HRs. He can look silly for 2-3 ABs, then BAM!

Devers hit his 100th HR yesterday. 3rd youngest SOX to ever do that, following Tony C. and Williams.

The impact of Devers leaving the SOX would hit me harder than when Betts left.

Locking him up, now, before his arb years end may lessen the cost, somewhat.

 

Who knows how Bloom views Devers or large and long contracts. His time in TB shouldn't count. His pre-emptive move with Betts is just one example. His budget has been restricted since he started.

 

If the budget opens up, this winter, like I think it will, we might see a side of Bloom nobody has seen before.
