What a change in the attitudes of posters from 3 days ago.

Yep. Nothing like April 4th to get me feeling gruntled for a change.

April 4th- a day that will live in talksox infamy, as the Sox go on to win 15 in a row under the "4/4 vs Rays" thread title.

What's funny to me, is that the biggest Debbie downers are those who denied we'd have a big down turn.

Maybe they are just frustrated they were so dead wrong.

I always wonder who you're referring to with these posts.

Really?

Do you really need me to say 700's name?

There's actually a pretty simple explanation for how someone could be both a Cliff-denier and down on the current team. It goes like this: if they hadn't fired Dombrowski and hadn't stopped spending, there wouldn't have been a Cliff and the 2021 team would be better than this.

i never said that there wouldn’t be a big downturn. I said that there shouldn’t be a big downturn. That’s a big difference. The Patriots haven’t had a cliff after prolonged success. The Yankees never seem to experience cliffs like this. This cliff is the result of extremely poor management. And yes, I am pissed about it, because a team with a payroll north of $200 million should be able to be competitive each season while rebuilding their farm.

What is funny to me is that you are interested in why I feel the way I feel, because your feelings don’t interest me at all.

Oh fellas, be nice!

I still don't know where I hold my feelings. I will say that this series was fun as hell!!!! But it's waaaaaay too early to tell how we will do. Eovaldi has been awesome, but his track record says he will either get hurt or have a bad stretch at some point, Houck is still a rookie, Richards was garbage in his start, Pivetta (ummm no idea who he is so can't comment) and Perez is Perez..... a 5th starter..... Our bullpen has been beautiful which is fun, but I have my doubts this rotation can keep playing this good (I really really hope they do, and I will eat crow if they do) even with E-Rod coming back. Offensively though, we are doing what I thought we would. Hitting some beautiful balls. Vaz has been awesome, JD as well. Company is following, everyone is hitting.

I will say, I really like that Phillips Valdez and Sawamura. If this pitching can continue this way, we easily have a shot at competing for this division, but.... that is a big IF.

Yes, of course.

There's also just the fact that it sucks for all of us to watch crappy baseball. It no better or worse for Cliff deniers. (You used that word, first.)

Yes, because you and others felt the farm could be magically rebuilt even with the 26th through 30th picks, assuming we kept winning, and that the budget could fival the Dodgers, because Henry is filthy rich and should just suck it up and keep throwing bad money after bad money.

BTW, it's not your feelings I'm talking about. It's your positions.

Those of us who saw a downturn coming and expected it are not surprised or all that upset, except maybe posters like Kimmi who was against the all out, no holds barred approach pretty much from the beginning, but even she seems to hold the position that we are rebuilding the farm and have a winning strategy in place- be it more long term than you thought it needed to be.

I thought DD overkilled it, but I was fine, because he made sure we won a ring, and we did, and he brought us 3 years in a row of very enjoyable viewing and the best record team the Sox have ever had, but the writing on the wall was clear and obvious to many of us.

You can blame it on the Eovaldi and Sale extensions and poor management, and there's truth to a lot of that, but we became unbalanced long before the slide started. There is no denying that. It would have taken genius management to prevent even a .500 team in 2000. DD's moves are the main reason we are where we are.

The downturn happened, as predicted, and your position was dead wrong. You can twist and turn and move the goalposts or go way back to "coffee boy Ben," but facts are facts.

We nearly decimated the farm in an era where baseball rules were changed to make it very difficult to rebuild a farm with money and low picks. As it is, we had to trade Betts, Workman, Moreland, Pillar, Hembree and others just to go from about 29th to 20th, and now we need this high pick draft cycle to jump us into the middle tier.

Where would are farm be without those trades and the 27th pick in this year's draft. The cliff was always coming. The only question was when.

I was dead wrong about when. I thought it would be after 2019 or 2020, and maybe even after 2021. (See how easy it is to admit one is wrong?)

I'm expecting 80-86 wins, but I've been trying to be optimistic.

I was the first to jump shift, in 2019, and I kinda feel bad about that. I'm usually one of the last hangers on.

I don't blame anyone for being pessimistic about this team, but I couldn't help but point out the irony.

For the record, I was very pessimistic about this season. No pitching, suspect defense, and not much hitting—confirmed in first series except the pitching was ok.

I am stunned by the Rays series and ecstatic because I watched all three games.

Since I technically haven't met Kimmi, I'm one of the most optimistic people I know, but even I was skeptical about our ability to compete this year. That said, I didn't realize until the week before Opening Day how much I sorely missed "real" baseball; not the product we were given in 2020. So, my season will be spent enjoying games more, regardless of how well the team ends up playing.

That's how I see it, too.

It still seems a bit surreal not seeing many fans in the seats, and onto another point, I think more fans can be allowed and still be safe and 5 feet apart.

Of course, it will be more fun watching us win more than 80 to 86 wins, but just watching real baseball again is tops.

I didn’t even know half the guys in our pen hahahaha. I was definitely not feeling good about this team but holy s*** they’re surprising me.

I have no problem admitting when I am wrong. I have a problem with people telling me I am wrong, but some people get off on that. Enjoy.

If we could pull a 2020 Marlins and sneak into the playoffs with a ragtag bunch of no names, that would be great

No kidding

Funny you mention that. My buddy and me were arguing the other day because he said Marlins made it. I didn’t think so and then I checked. I have no memory of them making it lmao ridiculous. They even beat the Cubs haha!!!!

Just laugh at the movie reference next time. The grounds crew in that flick was funny and that film came out many years before the Sox got swept by Baltimore ;)

This is like when Hulk Hogan came back from the NWO and returned to his yellow and red. Nobody thought he could return to such a strong wrestler but he did!!!! You know ? Sox are doing that too

Ugh. Worst example I’ve ever come up with.

So Baltimore next hey.

I don't "get off on it, " but maybe you get off on telling me I do.

BTW, in all the years of reading your posts, I've never read even a hint at an admission of being wrong on anything, although I have to admit, I have not read every post.

Good news today: eovaldi spun some amazing pitches! Vazquez with a tater! (Does Vazquez have more taters than devers, dalbec and bogey combined?)

Bad news today: devers still cold at the plate!

Ya I thought after yesterday that Devers would come alive. He had a couple nice hits, but oh well he will come around. He came up big yesterday, he will turn it around.

E Rod going tomorrow.

It is clear from your statement, that you have not read all of my posts. If you had, you would have to admit that you were wrong.

Big start for ERod and the Sox.

After an 0-3 start vs a team that was dead worst, last year, these standings look pretty good:

4-2 Bal

3-3 Bos

3-3 NYY

3-3 Tor

2-4 TB

Only 5 AL teams have a better record than the Sox, and one is KC at 3-2 and another Bal 4-2.

We can tie Bal by beating them, tomorrow.

Wayyyy too early to be getting caught up in the standings

Yes, but it is interesting that it's basically flipped from 2020.
