What should Bloom's plan be?

  1. 1. What should Bloom's plan be?

    • Plug in holes in roster and compete
    • Hold steady and dump salary during the season
    • Trade Price for salary relief while taking on a bad contract
    • Trade Betts for prospects
    • Trade some combo of Eovaldi/JBJ/other to get under tax cap

Moreland just doesn’t excite me. Every off-season I hope for the simple task of improving 1b. And every off-season they bring back Mitch Moreland...

The Sox themselves are not excited by 1st basemen. Moreland was not a surprise to me. They have not been excited by 1st baseman since Mo Vaughn. I would have been surprised if the Sox, Bloom or no Bloom put any actual additional effort into 1st base than just resign Mitch.

The advantage to Moreland is he is a guy the majority of the team already knows and presumably likes...

The biggest advantage for the Sox is he adds to depth. He’s also a lefty, which aside from Beni and Devers, you’re lacking. Like I said before, we are in an age where a player will be IL’d for a mild ache and pain. You need far more than your starting 9

And Bradley, who bats left-handed through both his slumps and hot stretches...
