JBJ, Price and Mookie to L.A. for Gavin Lux and Dustin May.

We might be able to do this for just May, but we'd probably have to take back Pollock or add a bunch of cash.

How about Lux and Misty May instead of Dustin May.

We are not getting Lux. We wouldn't get him just for Betts alone. Adding Price cancels out the value of Betts.

Considering how many of his buddies got purged back in 2012, I think we know the answer to this.

"Purge" You make this forum sound like Stalin's Kremlin in the 1930s.

If Bloom can pull off a mega deal with the LA Dodgers that nets the Sox players who would keep the Sox in contention and get them below the LT then that would be something worth noting. I would tp my hat to him if he is successful.

Kenya and Joc for Mookie Betts

I'd rather not trade Betts for a guy with 1 year of team control (Pederson). I like Maeda and his 4 years of team control at $3.1M, but I'd prefer Maeda and Downs.

I still like this better, and LA wants a pitcher, too:

Betts & Price

for

Pollock, Maeda & Downs

Red Sox and Dodgers talking Betts, per WEEI. Corey Seager part of conversation. I am interested in pursuing that if Price can be part of it. If they really want Betts after that they can outbid everyone in FA. He says its all about business so he will go to the highest bidder.

Dodgers apparently willing to send Seager over, but not Lux

So, he'd play 2B for us?

The trade simulator accepted this:

Betts, Price (+$9M), Chavis, Walden & Duran

for

Seager, Pollock & Maeda

We should be making 3 for 5 trades, though, not LA.

They’re not taking Price and Betts. No way in hell are they taking on nearly $60 mil in lux tax money for one year of Betts and for a broken down former ace. Not a prayer.

Now Seager is an intriguing player. He’s projected to make $7 mil in arbitration and has an extra year of control on Betts. He also is far harder to replace. The Sox could easily find an OFer who can OPS .750 and play representative D in RF for next to nothing. Try to get that at 2b, and you’re paying through the nose. That’d be one heck of a 3b-ss-2b combo

Per Rotoworld, the Dodgers are talking to Bloom about Betts, but apparently Mookie is Plan B if they can’t work out a deal for Lindor,...

While Seager is certainly an intriguing name, the Sox have a glut of infielders and no real outfield talent beyond Benintendi-Bradley-Betts...

Pollock offsets a lot of Price's deal. He counts as $48M over the next 4 years ($12M x 4). He essentially cuts Price's deal in half. Add the $3M x 3 years we pay, and the Price/Pollock aspect only costs LA $39M or $13M x 3- about what he's worth. Pollock would be an expensive bench piece on the Dodgers, if he was not part of the deal.

Seager and Maeda for Betts may be a stretch, but I don't think the deal is that wild.

Sorry, Moon, I know where you're coming from, but I can't read that statement and not respond: the only value the Dodgers care about this year is finally winning the World Series this year. That's why they're willing to make offers to high-priced free agent upgrades and discuss dealing from their wealth of prospects to land pieces that will put them over the top. This isn't my opinion; I'm just reiterating what all the pro writers from MLB and the Athletic have been saying all along. So if they can add Betts and veteran starting depth -- even it's Price -- that's more value than just Mookie... to LA in 2020.

I don't think Seager and Maeda is an overpay for Betts, either. But again, that may be contingent on LA getting Lindor, too. It may actually be worth it to a franchise to take on all that salary and pay the tax if it gets them a title (it was to Boston, after all)...

That leaves a few trade options after that ...could flip Seager and Price next or Price Chavis ? Id like to keep Seager but want Pederson along with Seager .Yes I'd Extend Pederson at a tenth the cost of Mookie .

Baseball Trade Values disagrees:

Corey Seager alone has more value than Mookie Betts, according to that site.

bloom shouldn't rush to do anything. we are sellers. let the market come to us. if we have to start the season over budget and make deadline deals to get under...so be it. let the desperation come then. but maybe, just maybe...we get an overpay between now and april 1st or maybe, just maybe someone is desperate at the trade deadline and price is looking good. i am not concerned at all that Bloom hasn't traded anyone yet. that just means he is being smart. and my boy is wicked smaht.

Most of us are resigned to the fact that we're losing Mookie. But none of us RED SOX fans have ever said he will be easily replaced. But keep posting away, hoping against hope that maybe someone from the FO will actually browse by and say, "Hey, even fans on Red Sox forums say they're ok with it if we trade him".

Mookie Betts will never be easily replaced. No other player can easily replace the only guy to ever hit five 3-home run games by age 26, because it's never happened before in baseball history.
