Lol. Enjoy being a distant third or maybe fourth this year. Cole and Sevy is the best 1-2 punch in baseball outside of Washington. Paxton isn’t dead, he will be back. German will also be back. Tanaka is a postseason ace and a good mid rotation starter in the regular season. Happ is a healthy veteran, who knows what he gives. JMont is finally healthy and throwing well with a good rookie season behind him. We have depth behind these guys. Yanks rotation will be light years ahead of the Sox. Light years. And the standings will show it.

I don't doubt the Yanks finish ahead of the Sox, and maybe by a lot, but you continuously rip Sox pitchers over their health issues and gloss over Yankee pitchers with health issues.

And 3 of those starters have significant injury, production or both concerns

How many of yours do or have very recently?

I'll bet you never leave home without your pocket protector firmly in place. :)

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Because it's dumb. Real things can be dumb.

It's not dumb. You may not like it, but that doesn't mean it's dumb.

Bloom is not finished yet.

I totally agree. This guy is the master of minor trades that turn out to be better than expected. He was hampered by severe budget restraints, and once the Betts deal gets done, IMO we'll see more.

Absolutely.

How about Eovaldi, JBJ, Chavis & $3M

for

Matz, S Smith, Familia & Lowrie?

I prefer to keep the guys that we have. I get that you'd like to get rid of Eovaldi's and JBJ's contracts, but I'm not high on trading JBJ, and the optimist in me says Eovaldi will bounce back. Plus, Chavis is young and cost controlled.

Smith is pre-arb- so "cost controlled." Matz has 2 years (one more arb). Familia & Lowrie combined are about 2/3 rds cheaper than Eovaldi. Lowrie has 1 year left- Familai 2.

I hope I'm wrong, but I see Chavis as the next Middlebrooks.

Eduardo Rodriguez is the only Red Sox player not signed yet, he’s asking for $8.9 Million and the Red Sox offer is for $8.3 Million.

Time for a 2 year deal on him, too. Lower the AVV for 2021.

I'd even see if he'd go for 3+ years.

If we get a reset this year, next offseason could be interesting.

However, would bloom trade martinez at the trade deadline this upcoming year if someone offered us a bag of used baseballs for him?

Seems like an insignificant amount to be haggling over, for both parties. Split the difference and call it a day.

Or maybe they are working on a longer deal of some sort.

Wouldn't surprise me if the sox and Erod signed a 2 yr deal and got some cost certainty for next season

Agreed, and that's why resetting is so important. It wasn't a "priority:" it was a "mandate."

It would lower the AVV for 2021 and raise the 2020 AVV, which works out best for us.

I think we are holding out for someone who can be our 5th starter and is pre-arb. We must have really liked Graterol, before the med check, so we're probably holding out for someone we view as being just as good/promising.

Graterol was ranked #53 by MLB.com on the midseason rankings. The closest Dodger prospects are May (32), Ruiz (33), or Gray (74)...

They may be searching for a third team in want for Maeda.

I'd take Gonsolin or Stripling, but Stip is not a starter.

I'd take Gray, but then I'd ask LA to take $3-6M less for Price or have them add Wong with Gray.

It would make sense. Might even be a 3-4 year deal.

Our farm just got a lot better.

Our budget, both for 2020 and 2021-2022, got much lighter.

Our new GM is known for finding bargain players that over perform.

Our core is still solid: Devers, Bogey, Sale and JD (for 1 or 3 more years).

Let's just hope we don't get slapped with major draft penalties. I'm much more optimistic about our future, today.

Waiting on those bargain bin finds.....

Am I the only one that finds it offensive they hired a guy whos specialty is finding "bargain bin" players?

The Oakland A's and Tampa Bay Rays have never won a thing.

They wanted Beane back in 2003ish. It’s the correction after having DD. Feel like they will load the farm and then use it for another WS run.
