So lets see, the Phillies staff out-pitched our staff for the two nights no matter how much we might have liked the pieced together game last night.

They outhit us though neither team distinguished itself there.

The Phillies looked more like they wanted to win, particularly tonight when in the critical 5th inning they just went right past us like we were standing still and never looked back.

PATHETIC.....PATHETIC....DOGS......laid down like dogs.

The Dogs of WAR(wins against replacement).

The offense looked flat again and this time against a weak starter and the same pen they saw the night before. Looking down the order and it is hard to see any bright spots. Maybe its time to bring up some kids who will play with more enthusiasm. Hard to be much worse than what we saw in the last two.

That the SOX brought up Owings pretty much describes the state of the SOX farm.

Simply put. Spot on.

I can't remember a time where I wouldn't blink an eye, if we DFA'd any one of 10 guys on our current 40 man roster:

Owings

Curletta

Kelley

Josh Smith

Shawaryn

Weber

Maybe...

Reyes

Lakins

Poyner

Then, there are the lame duck vets...

Pearce

Cashner

Leon

Maybe not DFA, but not part of our future plans:

Porcello

Moreland

Pedroia

(Maybe Wright, Brewer, Brasier, Hembree, Johnson, Velazquez and Travis)

I think the list of keepers is almost shorter.

I hate to say it but I agree with this list.

I must be mis-reading this thread, which is implying that Betts, Devers, Bogaerts, Martinez, Vasquez, Benintendi, Holt are all having crappy years. They're not. Even Bradley is pretty much right on his career stats ,and Chavis is about where Devers was last year. That's 10 position players who are doing about what would be expected, or in some cases considerably better, than they would have been expected to perform in Spring training. Since nothing has changed, why weren't you arguing to trade or DFA them all in the spring?

Game threads are the last place to look for rational opinions.

Yesterday it was BJ; tonight it's big dick. Who says baseball and porn can't co-exist?

Here's a joke I forgot to use in the previous game thread:

In porn scenes the BJ is often used as the 'opener'.

Well I have to admit I was wrong. The pen from Nuts forward only gave up 2/3 of a run per inning out the 9th.

pitching was not the problem during this 2 game sweep by the phils....

JBJ owned himself daily.

lol. offensively he was responsible for driving in 3 out of the 4 runs we scored in the 2 games vs the phillies but go ahead...tell me more.

If we were smart we would start to look very seriously at what we really have in the minor league system and get a head start on 2020 and 2021.

You don't lay down like the Sox did last night and suddenly go on one of these runs we are dreaming about. We don't even have the pitching to go on one of these runs. Repeating 5 wins and 2 losses out the season won't get anything done and that is all this team is capable of doing. 5 win two loss runs will do quite a bit for you if you start the season that way and run out the season that way. Trying to catch up.....NOPE and we are not capable of better. Not even sure we are capable of that.

Every 4th or 5th day we are going to run into a crap performance by our pitching and are on a similar cyclical basis going to run into a hot pitcher that just shuts us down or we simply become a tired offense for a day.

Some of the pitchers we have could actually pan out to at least be respectable if somebody would work with them that knew what he was doing. In some cases, the best thing that could happen to them would be to get traded. BJ is one of those. DHern is probably another one. Even Weber might be one.

Funny you should bring that up because I started a thread about Owings I was so darn mad. I still don't understand why he is with the big club, and I do see a need for another reliever (given that our starters are in such disarray).

I don't think I agree with oldtimer that "youngsters" from the farm should be brought up before September, which is now 10 days away.
