You guys are missing the point. First, I'm not advocating trade or anything, Sox are stuck with him or glad to have him, however you choose to look at it. But, the point I'm making is he is doing the opposite of what an ace should/could be doing. This game was typical of how he has not been a "Ace." He put the Sox behind and was outpitched by 13-2 German after the 3 previous SPs found a way to keep leads and not fall behind by too much early in the games. He is paid handsomely to help his team win or at least leave games after 6 or 7 IP with a chance to win. Instead, he's left his teams in binds, chasing the score. This has been going on now for way too long. He's a class act off the field (and on), but this is not about saying the right things, taking responsibility. This is about performance. If he performed to even acceptable standards for a high-priced, All-Star arm, the Sox could be 5 games ahead of where they are in the standings. Instead, he's s*** the bed to kill momentum way too often. He's the anti-stopper in this case (stopper means for you youngsters an ace who can stop a bad streak, be the ace of the staff and send the team in the right direction with sterling starts). Here was a chance for Sale to extend the momentum of the feel-good Sox return to playoff contender and instead he is back to being part of the "problem."

Yes.

You’re frustrated with Sale this year. As we all are. You vented this. And (hopefully) didn’t kick a puppy instead.

That’s one of the reasons these boards exist. They’re good for puppies.

(On the game thread, I referred to Sale as a genuine stopper, but in a sarcastic way for his new penchant for stopping winning streaks.)

Yes, he is the stopper of win streaks for sure. I'm good for this year based on winning it all last year, I'm a greedy fan, but more inclined to kick Beni's St. Louis Blues Cup t-shirt or burn it.

"He'll be fine" I've been hearing that since last September. He's a 4 inning pitcher! Rivera was a 2 inning pitcher, and used that way.

I've been sayimg it almost all year. TRY HIM AS A CLOSER! Right now we don't need 6-10 starters

I concur. I don't think you can just assume "he'll be fine" any longer. At any rate, he's due for a prolonged stint on the Injured List any day now...

Forgive me for also using this board for venting. I will go back to petting the wall rug.

Should we fear for your puppy?

He died unfortunately, too many seizures, but I prefer to kick a football with Lucy holding for me.

And how many times did you fall for that?

Too many too count, notin. She called me "blockhead," too. That bitch.

You might need Psychiatric Help...

Not missing the point at all. I agree with you that Sale is just not very good this year. It is absolutely frustrating, but wanting a trade is just plain dumb. He is capable of playing very good as we saw his two starts before this. Does anyone have Sales stats the last two years against the Yankees? I don’t think they are that great so I’m not overly surprised he didn’t play great. He has another start against them coming up maybe he can redeem himself.

Sell Sale?

Geez! Boy, are you f***ing serious? LOL!

Who do you going to replace with? I’ll wait.

While Sale has not been sharp this season, he’s been solid. He just need to make some adjustments ala Price to retake his form moving forward. He’s going to be oks.

He's 51-/ He's been "making adjustments" since last September. Let him earn some of that salary in the Pen. Hopefu;;y as the closer.

For those who like advanced stats, Sale's SIERA is 3.07 and his Deserved Run Average (DRA) is 2.65, good enough for 6th best out of all starters with at least 100 IP. Both of these stats are better predictors of future performance than ERA is.

As an aside, Matt Barnes ranks #2 in DRA (1.90) out of all pitchers with at least one IP.

Barnes is a 2 inning pitxher (as Sale shoulld be)

He is not tradeable with 5 yrs and $145 mil coming up

So that's why they have bullpen pitchers. He may even make a 7-8-9 closer!

Yes.

Sale will not be traded and should not be traded.

Sale will not be moved to the pen and should not be.

We will be patient as he re-invents himself into a different type of ace.

I'm hopeful he will be in top form by October.

I disagree that Sale should be a 2 inning pitcher. I also don't think that Eovaldi should be in the bullpen.

Barnes has been a lot better than many people give him credit for.

I'm pissed at Sale, but fundamentally agree with you because I have never seen a more professional, focused pitcher. His fast ball, cut fast ball, changeup, and slider are all pretty good, but I wish he had a big curve and that he was better working the lower part of the zone.

Sale is the most professional, fundamentally sound, focused, greatest...underperformer in Sox history. Nah, just kidding, he did his job at times when it counted last year, but let's face it. He's not the SP we envisioned as automatic Pedro lights out, game over.

We just have to keep the faith with Sale . And hope he does better . But giving him that contract was questionable considering the red flags . Maybe a little too hasty .

Gibson would headhunt you though, i bet he would if a batter stepped in that box on a ceremonial first pitch.

Gibson threw at his kid in a father-son game...
