Two weeks ago people were saying that Barnes is the only guy in the pen that they trust . Now , it's " anybody but Barnes ." And so it goes .

I still like Cora and I still think he is a very good manager. I admit I didn't think we needed a closer all that bad personally. I also still think Barnes is a very good relief pitcher but just not a 9th inning guy. Unfortunately he cracks under pressure but I trust him in pretty much any other inning to get the job done.

It's not the same people making the statements though. moonslav is the one who said Cora is the greatest manager ever. moonslav is not the one calling Cora a bum.

That's true . But they are still examples of people over reacting.

That's sports fans unfortunately. You should have seen the Colts board when the Colts lost to the Chiefs in the playoffs.... The fans went from "Colts are losing close games, we will be better next year" (when the Colts started 1-5) then they went 10-2 losing only to the Jags and then Chiefs in playoffs and fans were saying "How did we lose to the Chiefs that bad, we suck!!!! Andrew Luck looks hurt, bla bla bla" Lmao there is a reason why we are fans. Most of them lose their head lol.

Right . The word " fans " is derived from " fanatics." For a reason .

Yup, I like how passionate people get but at the end of the day sometimes their passion outweighs their judgement.

I think Cora is a good in game manager, but he messed up royally with his spring training approach to the starting pitching and it may have screwed the season.

Isn't the jury still out?

What if we win a ring while all our starters look fresh and strong in October?

Would that change you (and other's) mind?

It seems with some of the fans it's either World Series or it's a lost season..... Even though a repeat in the World Series is next to impossible to do. Just ask Houston. Who actually had a better record last year than they did in their World Series year. If we make playoffs past the Wild Card round I will be happy. I don't see us beating the Yankees this year regardless.

At last, a voice of reason.

IMO we've all lowered our expectations a bit from ST time. Weren't most of us expecting to battle the MFY to the wire to win the division? Now many of us (me included) would welcome a WC spot.

I still think this team has the potential to play well enough to win the WS, but fans of probably ten teams can say that. It's all about realizing their potential.

I find that whether I'm enjoying watching the Sox is a matter of my expectations. One of my favorite times to watch was the last half of the 2015 season. I knew the Sox were out of the race but I found it enjoyable to watch JBJ, Mookie, etc. begin to come into their own.

During the last 2-3 months of the race the Sox actually were playing better baseball. I had no expectations of making the playoffs and it was enjoyable for me to just sit back and enjoy the show.

A lot can change by then.

Of course, if we keep playing like this, nobody will have much confidence going into the playoffs.

I'm sure Dodger fans liked their chances, last year, going in.

Valid point. Yankees still could go in a slump. Doubt Houston fans thought their team would lose 8 of their last 9 games or whatever it is. They are terrible right now. Injuries can come when least expected.

As for the Dodgers, they remind me of Lebron James. Always a threat but I don't put my money on them to win the World Series. Though they gave Houston a hell of a good series two years ago. But if they happen to play the Yankees I don't think the Dodgers have a chance.

Expectations for me as a fan are not more than a foil. I love to laugh at "expectations". I will enjoy watching the Sox play if they are in the basement or in the penthouse. Have enjoyed them more often in the basement THAN the penthouse in my time. I also have to admit that part of my "enjoyment" of the game is to raze the ever optimistic, ever unrealistic Sox PR department trying in vain to pump tires with holes in them and I enjoy razing MLB's PR department for its ludicrous pumping of tires with holes in them. But neither expectations, or PR departments or idiot Manfred will prevent me from enjoying this game, the players that play it a zillion times better than I was able to play it or enjoying the Red Sox whether in the basement or the penthouse. The only way to get under my skin is to be a player or a team that does not appreciate or respect the marvelous benefits of what are in the main, God given talents. Everything else, I laugh at for the most part.

I agree on the Dodgers.

The Yanks sure look like the team to beat, but so did we this time last year, but by playoff time, there were doubters left and right.

I suspect the better teams in the AL are a cut above the better teams in the NL as they were last year. I also suspect that the Yankees will spend whatever it takes to get past the other AL teams and to and through the WS. I don't think there is another AL team willing to do that including us.

Again, I agree, but the best team, on paper, doesn't always win.

If we win the Division, yes. If not, and we survive the crapshoot of the wild card game, I will still believe that it was a mistake. I think the best way to keep the staff fresh would have been to jump out to a lead early and given rest along the way. I don't think resting in March and April will have much positive effects later in the season.

Edit: And I am not doubtful that we can win the division.

Anytime I have called out WTF Cora it’s because IMO he did another WTF move. People respond and defend the move and sometimes that shows me another side to it and sometimes it doesn’t. I don’t recall anyone ever calling him a “bum”.

But if you don’t think Cora has done many WTF moves this season then I’m not sure we are watching the same game. One simple example is remind me 1 time in your life at any level of baseball you saw a healthy pitcher pulled from the game on a 3-2 count? I don’t give a f*** whether or not that move “worked”. It’s 1million percent “WTF”

Was Cora asked about that and did he give an explanation?

Yes. Once the runner got to second at 3-2 he no longer liked the matchup was his reason.

Don't forget this is the manager who benched a guy a game after he hit for the cycle in a playoff game, got away with a shaky Kintzler blowing a final out, and got the same Kintzler a start with 2 big hits to beat Yankees. It's like everything Cora did last year turned to gold, and a lot of his "watch this I'm gonna shock the world" moments this year going the opposite direction. He's a good manager, but I do think he overthinks sometimes and other times his excuses for sitting a guy--the St. Louis Blues young lefty stud out with and I quote "heavy legs" is pretty head-shaking. Nunez has had some big clutch hits this year but in a million years he should never ever be a DH or be the option at DH.

I think we can turn it up in the second half of the season and really compete for the division. I can’t remember our record against the Yanks. 1-4? If we win this weekend and maybe win both it could be the momentum we need to right this ship.

We have to go 55-25 just to get to 99 wins. That is a .679 winning percentage for the second half. Do you think they can go .679? Do you think 99 wins gets the Division crown?

Let's face it, statistically our chances of catching the Yankees for the division are remote, miniscule. They may get even more so if the Yankees acquire Stroman or MadBum or whoever.
