That was a special team and Grogan was young enough that he had not as yet been beaten to a pulp. As i remember it, they could not pay or did not pay to keep the core of that 76 team together. Fairbanks then bailed on them maybe because they did not keep the core team together and that was that. While things get foggy that far back that f***ING Ref call is stuck in a very dark place in my memory banks.

Yeah, wish Kraft owned that team then, instead of the idiots Sullivans.

Amazing what can happen when you put the ball in play. Now Beni needs to steal second. Beating Verlander... for now

Thanks for listening Beni---you are getting better by the minute

Are we going to dink and dunk our way to a win here? Stranger things have happened. Houston may just be content taking 4 of 6.

Houston playing defense like some amateurs. Now capitalize on it with a bomb and send Verlander home to Ms. Upton

Much much happier with Devers up in the order and Moreland....or Pearce.....anywhere else.

That said, its a bit of a mystery why Verlander suddenly decided to get cute with his pitch selection.

Rafi and JD just confirmed the selection of the dink/dunk methodology today. Don't want to take away a save oppo for the BP

Just read Holt is with the team in Houston, but cant be activated. Too many Pitchers, for him to go on Roster.

Got to love Verlander's approach to Chavis. Want some cheese ? Here's its yours. The reality is that Chavis has all the power in the world but no real approach to hitting. He can either develop at the MLB level over 2 or 3 years or go back to Pawsox and do so in one.

E-Rod looking good.

Definitely surprising me today against a good Houston team! Needed this kind of performance from E Rod.

Pitchers are not even trying to set up a Slider on the outer third any longer. Don't have to. Just pumping FB's past him one after the other. Some pitcher will do that to him though. Baseball is a punishing game. 3:10 at the plate is success. But 0.90 in the field is failure. Just a maddeningly difficult game to play well and almost impossible to play at a consistently high level unless you are a very very special player.

Should we send down JBJ? Chavis changed the momentum for Red Sox this season. Without him, we're not playing .500 ball. Verlander is tough for anyone.

VAZ picked him ! Now make the call

What a throw....unreal footwork from Vaz.

That would be another go directly to traction for a month move for me. Miley's pick off move and Vaz's turn would be ambulatory in my case if I even attempted to simulate either of them.

If Jackie had an option, he would be down. Chavis definitely brought another look to the Sox and helped some games. Doesn't change the fact that his hitting is very undeveloped yet. Having trouble identifying the momentum you say the team now has.

Cora should have a quick hook ready for Steady Eddie this inning. One gets on, make a move. Would be ecstatic with a 1-2-3 inning by ERod.

Forgot the rule requiring Workman to start a clean inning, but let's see what happens, hopefully good stuff, lots of strikes.

6-13 prior to Chavis call up

21-12 after Chavis call up

I will concede the irrational relationship between cause and effect. It may also include the starters getting their ST work in a little late, the 11 game road trip to open, some home cooking, a few hitters waking up, and yes, Chavis's 10 HR and 26 rbi's helped. Still doesn't change the fact that he has some predictable maturing to do as a hitter. He is starting from a better base than many of his contemporaries. I also don't see him as real liability on defense as some do. He will be on the field and in the lineup for a good while to come.

No matter what else happens in the 8th and 9th, EROD outdueled Verlander. Further, with a little more hitting, the Sox could outscore the Astros for the three games while dropping 2 of 3. That's the difference between 2018 and this season.

Missed the big hit. Got to improve there.
