After this 23rd game by the SOX the starters have a total of 2 wins. The only team I'm sure of who had fewer wins by starters after the 23rd game is the '88 Orioles that started the season at 0-21.

BP ERAs Hembree 5.56, Thornburg 5.59, Brewer 8.31 (and will have 2 losses)

I would have preferred to pull Brewer than the infield . DD really rolled craps when he thought he could paste a BP out of some of these guys.

 

Yeah BP was never really his strength.

He's a big help for our talented starters but no help for talentless AA bullpen pitchers.

Back to the subject of Chris Sale. I've alway felt he relies too much on K's on not enough on pitching to contact, which this guy Boyd for the Tigers seems very good at. That said, 2 runs in 5 innings is not half bad, but the pen is worse than bad.

Going into this game, the Tigers staff had the 5th best ERA in MLB--3.25. For awhile, the Sox ERA was double that.

The BP is not the greatest, but c'mon, the SOX starters have been the real problem. Most BP's, when they're exposed as much as the SOX pen, will s*** their pants.

Pitching only 5 innings is fully bad, especially with an overworked pen.

This game was 3-3 going into the 8th. Cora is managing game 2 when he brings in Brewer , saving Barnes/Brasier/Workman/Walden. AC used his 3 weakest relievers back to back hoping to get lucky. Got screwed instead, and then his #1 & #2 hitters kicked him in the groin.

He was definitely part of the problem.

Not getting it done and that includes our ace. This offense stinks as well.

 

Ace went 5 and gave up 2. Bullpen so far has gone 3+ and given up 5 with 2 on and no outs in the 9th, so I'm having a hard time blaming Sale.

 

And the lineup has 3 runs against the 5th best staff in MLB.

 

All in all, I have to say this one is on the bullpen.

The pitching blew up in the end. This team needs to be careful here and make sure they don’t have another losing streak.

I definitely enjoyed last year. Btw, seeing how there's a Yankem fan on this thread, I'll ask him the same question I'd asked SOX fans. If the Yankems were guaranteed a WS win this year, but they would finish in last the following year, would you take that?
