The only comment I'll make regarding the take-out slide rule is why aren't ML ballplayers wearing dresses? I'm sure Ty Cobb would second that.

Frankly I don't like any of the GD rule changes other than the DH. They can take the whole rest of it, replay, rules around 2nd base and DP's (the take out slide), rules around Home Plate and throw them into a trash can. That MIGHT be enough to make me happy AGAIN. First thing they can eliminate....REPLAY except for Home Runs and fan interference. The rest of it is TRASH...just plain trash.

I agree 100%. All these rule changes were made to benefit the players and the organizations. The fans, as usual, were left out of the equation.

Not sure having Pedey as DH is going to cure SOX offensive woes.

Pearce was supposed to be but with JBJ still sick, Benintendi hurt and Nunez apparently ill, Cora doesn’t have a ton of options. Do you use Swihart in left and have Vazquez catch a 4th game in a row? The down side of a 13 man pitching staff

That makes sense. Thanks.

BTW, these ballplayers should watch hockey and see how easy they have it.

Right now this team is risking being down 10 games or more early in the season because of their mediocre start. It all goes back to spring training for me.

Cora's decision on ramping up the pitching so slowly was really bad.

Yeah, the poor fans. Who don't get to see concussions or broken legs at home plate anymore. Who do these entitled players think they are? We want are cheap-shot career-ending slides back.

There was nothing cheap about those slides or collisions. It was the rules of the game, and I am convinced that this mamby pamby second base rule is not preventing injuries. Now, second baseman will not be trained to evade the runner (an art which was a thing of beauty). Instead, they will stand their ground and will be sitting ducks for the inevitable inadvertent or deliberate illegal slide -- like with Pedey and Machado. They have a false sense of security.

And the players would still play under the old rules. Do we really think infielders are thrilled with the idea of chasing the baserunners with their noses stuck up the runner's ass holding the tag on him hoping some super slow-mo will show that the baserunner was off the bag for a split nanosecond while the tag was still on. But you tell the infielder he might get an out that way and he is going to play his position that way. Does the fielder actually have a choice? "Ohhhhhhh you didn't hold the tag on for the whole play...what a baaaaaaad boy". ********.

and if a catcher didn't want to get crunched, they don't have to block the plate. Fisk learned how to do that after his knee injury, and Varitek made a living out of blocking the plate with that concrete post of a left leg. This s*** didn't need to be legislated. It is part of the game and the players knew how to protect themselves.

BTW, I haven't heard a former or current middle infielder that likes the new rule. Remy doesn't like it.

I have less of an issue with banning the collisions at home plate than the old take out slides at second. Even under the old rules you couldn’t barrel over people at any other base (although admittedly some of the cross body blocks Hal McRae threw were probably beyond even what were the limits). Never understood why the plate was different.

Corrrectamento....the rule does nothing to actually protect players. The rule just encourage sloppy infielder footwork which actually creates opportunity for injury. Infielders now either putz their way around the bag exhibiting two left feet or fearlessly stand there depending on the rule to protect them, dead meat if the runner simply goes through them. They no longer have any clue how to move around the bag or how to protect themselves.

Why do people always bring up hockey in debates for no reason? They’re different sports... and TBH I’d rather watch just about anything other than Hockey.

Hockey players walk on water.

Just to prove a point that ML ballplayers are overly protected to the detriment of the game.

Cure for Chris Davis......Red Sox Pitching.

I hate Hembree. That is all I will say about him....until the next time he pitches.

Don’t watch the sport but will root for the local team. I am not much a fan of their playoff format either. They don’t use the 1-8 format which is ridiculous.
