Had contracts not been a factor, I would have liked to have seen the Red Sox go with Leon & Swihart.

Well, had we been able to trade Vaz, we'd have more budget space.

Vazquez was the starting catcher for 8 of our final 9 postseason games in 2018. We won 7 of those games. So yeah, let's get rid of him!

I'm pretty sure that you know that that very few people here are arguing for a major catching change right now. I guess that personally I'm just not giving him as much credit for the team's success or lack thereof as some

to this point in time. I will say that I have always felt that Leon was a better overall catcher. Just speaking for myself if neither one of them can hit and we have to have one as opposed to the other my choice would be Leon.

Exactly what I was trying to convey, thanks. One great game calling, defensive catcher, and one catcher with more of an offensive upside sounds like a workable tandem.

Not questioning your choice because frankly, we all have to make our own choices for our own reasons.

Mine would be Vaz because at least when he has his head screwed on straight he actually has some hitting talent and he can go to RF thus hitting behind runners. In fact going to the opposite field is all Vaz can do with that swing of his. Leon on the other hand has no hitting talent whatsoever.

Both need to be able to bunt better, particularly in the American League where the Pitcher does not hit. I consider Leon's receiving and defensive skills marginally better than Vaz's if that. Yet Vaz merely needs to give up on any idea that he can pull anything other than a dead inside pitch that forces him to pull his hands inside the baseball. The chances of keeping a ball hit like that fair are worse than my hitting the lottery this week. Just for the record, I don't generally play the lottery. That should say enough about what I think of Vaz's chances of pulling anything and keeping it fair.

I certainly don't think my opinion matters much.

But Cora's opinion should matter.

And he decided to go with Vazquez for the World Series run, and as the #1 catcher to start this season. That's all I'm leaning on.

i do feel that it is pretty much a wash between Leon and Vaz. My viewpoint might be tainted somewhat because I am frustrated with Vazqueth. I knew what we were getting in Leon. he is what he is. With Vazqueth, honestly I keep hoping for more. I keep expecting to hit.

I likely would not question any of Cora's choices. i think that he made a good and easily acceptable decision in going with Vazqueth. it is likely just me, I am not particularly impressed with any of our catchers. Personally i think that it is even likely that some of the guys we currently have in the minors could do as serviceable job if there is a no hitting requirement. That being said, i will continue to pull for the boys.

Something to chew on here, having rapport with your catcher as a pitcher is very important. I’d say a bad catcher takes more from a pitcher than a good catcher will add. If Swihart is that bad behind the dish and the pitching doesn’t improve, the psychological effect to thevstaff that a Leon return could bring would be worth it

The other thing to keep in mind is that it might take a little bit of time for the pitchers to build that rapport with Swihart. It doesn't necessarily mean that Swihart is bad, just that the comfort and confidence level take a little time to develop.

Our pitchers will be fine.

Vazquez has much better numbers than JBJ (and a few others) so far. Is it time to start up the annual 'Trade JBJ' thread already?

I have been waiting for the JBJ threads to start. I'm pleasantly surprised that they haven't yet.

It’s only a matter of time. We should also be getting a thread about Devers defense soon too.
