I not only am getting a whiff, I said it on another thread. This team is better of course, but they sure aren't playing that way. It's kind of like they're still playing at Fort Meyer and getting ready for the season to start.

I do think the laid back ST approach , to a smaller degree, and the extended last 2 ST games on the road in Mesa, AZ followed by 11 consecutive on the road out west were pretty poor circumstances to start a championship follow up. Even after 6 games at Fenway, including a couple off days, it's back to the road again.

I think Cora has got to learn not to trust ERod when he puts the first two men on--especially the first one he had him 0-2 and walked him--with no one out, it's a close game, he's already given up runs, and he's thrown 60 or more pitches.

Sad thing is.... I just don't trust E-Rod to rebound. I really don't. Porcello, Price, Sale have bad games. I trust fully they will rebound the next game or snap out of their funk. E-Rod unfortunately I think has more bad than good in him. He hasn't show to have changed a thing from last year, and if possible I think gotten worse. He is all over the place. Not sure what to do with him. It's early but holy s*** he looks bad.

In defense of E-rod he didn't get much help from Laurel and Hardy in the OF.

Nope. He threw a gopher ball to the same guy who homered in the 3d and he hit it deep. Yes, it was catchable, but ERod threw a very hittable pitch.

Please remind me. Which of these two teams is over the spending limit?

And which team is among the poorest in the league.

If Pedroia is back next week, I would seriously consider sending ERod down (he does have options left). Maybe that will get through to him because whatever they are doing now ain’t working. Maybe Leon can do something with him ala Crash Davis and Nuke LaLoosh.

The bottom 4 guys in today's lineup are hitting a combined .700 (.175 BA) That's a lineup for a getaway day for a team that is dominating long road trip. Brett Anderson gave up 3 runs early but hung around and now looks like a quality start. Erod imploded , was inefficient, then got bit by the Jackie/Mookie clown show. The right handed dominant lineup hasn't done enough vs. Anderson.

ERod does not have the mental capacity to recover. He does not even know to think about a recovery. ERod pitches one pitch at a time. He always did and I think he always will. Each pitch is an identifiable entity all its own to ERod. So if he cannot even sequence during a game, how is he supposed to consider the concept of recovering from a bad start and think from one game to the next? Now ERod would likely rationalize that "Ah ya' gotta' forget the bad ones and move on".

Who's Pedroia?

Interesting thought.

Highest payroll in MLB and our Sox only have 3 things they don't do well--hit, pitch, and field. Bring on the clowns.

Not a bad idea. Maybe he has the problems in Venezuela on his mind. Just never see the grit and determination to overcome minor setbacks. The 2 run missed flyball was not a small issue, but notice how Erod died immediately thereafter.

Imho, last year he was the best hitter in baseball. He's got a good shot of being the best hitter again this year.

Sale was good, but yes outside of that it's been a total disaster..... It's sad when we say Eovaldi's 5 inning 4 runs was not bad lol.

Nunez is a much better hitter when no one's on base.

Nunez was great with the bat when he joined at the deadline in 2017.

He was dreadful last year playing injured, and he has sucked so far this year .

He is a complete butcher with the glove .

Can this offense make the game interesting at least? Come on let’s go!!!

Might have a chance now that E-Rod is out of the game.

If the ghost of baseball future came to you back in March of 2018 and said "here's the deal; I'll make sure the SOX are world champs this year, but they will not make the playoffs in 2019." Would you have accepted that deal?

Yes, the sure thing vs the hope

Yes. Call me crazy but I would rather miss the playoffs than lose first round 2 years in a row like we did.

Though..... with the talent level we have starting 2-6 is simply embarrassing.

Not to beat a dead horse, but the SOX right now look like a dead horse.

Just haven't looked right since game 1 in the Seattle series..... Pitching just can't get it going and the offense even though they have put up a few runs the last couple games still don't look totally settled in. Hope things turn around when we get home...... But damn.... At this rate if we are 2-9 or 3-8 by the time we get home, I'm not sure I can bare to watch that game lol.

Last thought on Erod's inefficiencies (after a great 14 pitch 1st inn.) is that he burns the bullpen like a blowtorch. Puts added stress on the one group who are performing, especially with no days off.

BTW to Cora- Give Pearce the rest of the day off and bat Moreland vs the RH reliever

Ya..... it’s concerning big time. E Rod has shown me nothing that says he will rebound.

And both games that this team has won were in the very last inning. They could be winless right now.

And a complete gift from Oakland. A massive error that got us rolling a bit. We were being shut out till then.... Actually I think we had one run but still. It was pretty ugly.
