The White Sox offer to Machado is for $175 million, over seven years. In some ways, their approach is like Boston's w/ J.D. Martinez last winter -- the Red Sox offered $100 million and waited for two months. If CWS offer emerges as best, a big ? is: Would Machado/NYY re-engage?

At this price Machado is a bargain AAV 25 Millions

I can see a front loaded deal and an opt-out after 2 or 3 yrs and he can try FA again at 28/29 years old.

Oh it’s a safe bet his agent has been in contact with the Cashman. As well as Friedman, Dombrowski, BVW, and Klentak. And probably a few others...

That's quite a bit off from the 10 yr/$300+ million we've been hearing about for so long. I would love it if Machado has to 'settle' for that amount.

I can see the players arguing "owners collusion" in the next next collective contract negotiations, I have the feeling that it will get worse and a strike is coming

If I was Cashman, I'd offer him 7/175 with $100 mil over the first 3 seasons with an opt out

Why not just offer a 3 year $100mil?

I doubt the 4years $75 mill is much of an incentive to stay...

Is the report that the Nats offered $300M fake news, too?

I don't know, but in this case the player's agent chose to make a public statement of denial, and that's a bit unusual.

Yes, and it makes me think the $175/7 is untrue.

I'm not sure about the reported Nats offer, or if it still on the table. I also heard the Nats did not want to go above $25M/yr, so if they did offer $300M, it must have been $300M/12.

I’d say it’s unheard of. Have you ever seen anything like it?

Usually the agents are adding “mystery teams” into the mix, not trying to take offers out of it...
