First off, I think the chances of the Sox actually trading Bradley - or any starter - are only slightly better than the chances of the Sox relocating Fenway Park to the moon. Trades can really shake up a team, and this is a team best not shaken right now.

But message boards do need some sort of discussion. And I’m bored right now.

So just for the heck of it, if the Sox made Bradley and his 2 years available for a starting pitcher, who do you suppose they could get. Let’s keep it as realistic as our biased little minds can and not say things like “I’d only trade Bradley for Scherzer or deGrom” type stuff.

What do you suppose Bradley would actually be worth to another team?

There's already a post for this, no?

There is another thread but it was a silly 'let's trade JBJ because he stinks' thread.

If my opinion mattered, I would rule in favor of notin on this one.

Just give it a few weeks and this one will get silly too.

That old thread was for venting frustration, and it showed. I’m hoping for more baseball-oriented discussion from the least frustrated fan base in MLB right now...

Julio Teheran

That’s certainly an interesting thought. Teheran has one year ($11 mill) left with an option for a second and seems to be a constant source of trade rumors. The Braves do have a good and heap CF in Ender Inciarte, but LF is manned by Adam Duvall, who it turns out isn’t much.

They might be interested. I think they’re in the market for an OF...

I think the Cubs pass...

Lester is declining while his contract is really high and the Cubs are in the market for an OFer. Their current CFer has a negative dWAR.

Honestly, I think the Sox would pass.

All true about Lester, but trading him is a white flag of sorts to their fans.

I think the Sox pass, too. And the Cubs sign AJ Pollock...

Every year. Every. Damn. Year.

Not really. I’m a huge Bradley fan just trying to get some baseball conversation going.

I think the Sox off-season is going to be very boring but for good reasons. However we do have a notorious trader at the controls, and if anyone had to guess what MLB player he was most likely to trade, JBJ is one of the better candidates due to his ability and years left and that he isn’t a team-altering MVP candidate.

Really the most likely guy to go is Chavis to the point where I’ll be surprised if he is still with the organization in March. But who could guess a Chavis trade?

DD is a notorious trader, but with the Sox the only non-prospect of any note he's traded is Travis Shaw.

Yeah but back then he actually had plenty of prospects of note. The cupboard is a little bare right now...

That cupboard has 4 freakin championships.

What exactly is your point?

Dombrowski does make a lot of trades and always has. As Bellhorn pointed out, he has always dealt prospects and not Major League players (except Travis Shaw ).

Welll if he wants to do what he usually does to continue this run, namely trade prospects, the Sox don’t really have much left. I fully expect Chavis to be dealt this off-season, possibly next week at the winter meetings. Beyond him, what else is there?

Maybe I should have just started a trade bait thread for players people expect to be moved this off-season in DD’s trades...

That won’t help Trader Dave make his moves this off-season...

Trader Dave don't need no trades this offseason. He just needs Moneybags John to keep the wallet handy.

That’s certainly a possibility. Although at some point, Henry is going to close that wallet...

My point is that he has properly used the cupboard. The point of having a MLB team is to win championships. You don't fly banners for having the #1 farm system. You fly banners if you can properly use that farm system to fill MLB positions (Devers, Xander, Betts, JBJ, et al) and trade areas of need (Sale, Kimbrel, Eovaldi).

That’s the past. I’m talking about the present.

Stating that cupboard is bare isn’t a complaint about what Dombrowski did, but rather a statement about his options for what he’s going to do...

That's how I see it.

I have no issues with what DD did. We won a ring, so it worked.

That doesn't mean I have to be happy about the state of our farm, and being concerned about 2021 does not take an ounce away from my happiness about 2018, 2019 and probably 2020.

He's going to do what he always does, keep the minor leaguers that he thinks will have a nice fit in BOS and trade the others.

Some people misinterpret other's beliefs and feelings.

I'm very glad we sacrificed some of our future for a ring (or 2).

It was more than "good enough".

I’m pretty sure he’s traded away several minor leaguers he thought would fit in Boston. But he had to in order to make some trades he wanted to make.

It really has to work that way with prospects; chances are most players Dombrowski views as expendable will be viewed that same way by other GMs...

There are three things you can do with prospects : 1 - You can promote them and fit them into your lineup . 2 - You can trade them for proven talent that you can fit into your lineup. 3 - You can keep them down on the farm , check their stats every day and say , " The future looks bright."

Some people try to find the bad in everything.

Saying Dombrowski has no good prospects to trade isn’t a complaint. It’s actually an endorsement of what he’s done and a realistic look at what it will take for it to continue in the immediate future...
