Yes, but the point was about 2018.

Well then rescind that.

If that’s the case, Lindor is the man. He’s easily a top 5 MVP candidate...

It's been a remarkable year for AL position talent. 6 guys over 7 WAR (to give a contrast, in 2008 when Pedey won the MVP there was only 1).

Betts, Ramirez, Trout, Chapman, Bregman and Lindor all have good cases. That said, Betts probably wins it - and deserves to.

My son went to a school that started their baseball program during his Junior year.

Shortly afterward he made the observation that when the baseball players showed up the average IQ in the school dropped 20 points.

Reading about far too many NFL players who actually believe that the world is flat?

Sure, thinking the moon landing is a fake puts you in a league of your own, with few dumb enough to even make it into their minor league system....

The NFL players who think the world is FLAT, "because, any way you ever look at it, it always looks flat," redefine insanity.

I'm surprised this year for bogey to be honest. It's the first year his production has been good towards the end of the season. All his other seasons he started off hot and was mia season ends. Good to see a complete season from him. Hopefully this is what we see from him every year now

Agree, we get him for one more year, then he becomes a FA. That I'm sure Boras is going to shop. Another good year, plus maybe a WS thrown in there, Sox going to have a hard time resigning, at his age. They could of course, but he'll get paid for sure.

Next Off season for the Sox is going to be a doozzy, that's all I know. Sale, Porcello, Bogey, Nunez if he comes back. Plus your going to be paying more to Betts, Benni, JBJ. JD can Opt out. Better get it done this or next year.

You let Sale and Porcello walk. Nunez, too. Extend Bogaerts. Give raises to Betts and Benintendi. And hope Martinez doesn’t opt out. But be ready in case he does...

Kyrie Irving, too.

One might think Kyrie Irving could grasp the concept of rotation. But apparently he can explain where night comes from another way (sarcasm)...

If Martinez has another year close to what he's having this year, he's opting out.

Either way, it's going to be a tough call on who to keep and who to let go.

My hope is Martinez decides free agency was such a collassal disappointment last time, he decides to postpone it for as long as possible...

Maybe he's enjoying his time in a big market so much that he will want to stay. He seems to be one that feeds off of the fan frenzy and the media spotlight.

A ring might make him happy enough to want more.

As Price said, why would he go somewhere that he doesn't have a good chance to win a ring?

Bogey is hitting .351 this year with RISP, .323 with 2 outs and RISP this year. Unreal numbers.

Fantastic, but not a repeatable skill.

Fantastic, but not a repeatable skill.

Nothing beyond the basics of being able to throw a baseball and swing a bat is a repeatable skill in baseball.

Hitting is a skill. Hitting in the clutch is not.

Hitting well and throwing well are skills.

Hitting and throwing well "in the clutch" are not.

Clutch may or may not exist ... but all of the ways folks have tried to measure it - RISP, Close and Late, have revealed nothing.

The word " clutch " is thrown around too loosely. True clutch situations only really happen when the pressure is greatest , the stakes are highest and there is so much to be gained or lost. This does not happen too often. Some players can go all year without seeing a true clutch situation. When it does happen , some deal with it better than others. Not sure what that proves. Maybe just the difference in people.

They've revealed nobody consistently does much better in the clutch than otherwise.

Year-to-year numbers yo-yo all the time.

Truer words have never been spoken.

Statistics are valuable for two things, describing what happened in the past and predicting what might -but not will - happen in the future.

Whether a person is in a 'clutch' situation resides entirely in the mind of that person.

Bogey

Career OPS: .770

Career Late & Close: .769

.841 this year

.725 last year

.768 year before

.871 year before

.684 year before

Hard to project anything from this...

Now that I don't get. If it's a big situation it's a big situation.
