Poyner is like a 1 inning Pitcher.

One inning can be OK for post season if you can do it two or three games in a row. Not at all sure Poyner can do that.

This team has been stumbling here and there. Got Atlanta next which won’t be easy. A split is not the end of the world but still. The starting pitching has been awful lately with the exception of yesterday.

Poyner stopped the bleeding, and even at 4-0 the guys can easily beat James Big Game Shields. Edited by vegasbob

Johnson has really been struggling lately.

He has.

Still, I like the guy. I am not giving up on him.

We do need him to pitch in the rotation until we get our starters back. By that I mean Price and Sale.

Glad to see ERod look so good in his 1st game back.

Atlanta got some fireballers called up. They have great young talent.

We have been getting poor starting pitching with the exception of E-Rod. Puts a lot of pressure on the offense. The good news is the Yankees are struggling today as well.

Fooling around with sub .500 teams and expecting the 6 or 7 run inning is not a brilliant strategy for playoff baseball. I can see why the Sox players may not have much urgency at this point of a great season but it is sometimes hard to flip the switch when you have been coasting for a month.

Before today's game...

Johnson's ERA with each catcher:

.683 w Leon (105 PAs)

.843 w Vaz (128)

.731 w Swihart (144)

Leon is slightly better than Swihart. Sample sizes all close to even.

I'm not blaming Johnson's poor outing on Swihart, but I do wonder how well he'd have done with Leon catching him. If Leon would have done better, it begs the question....

Does Swihart's 1 for 1 outweigh 5 runs given up?

Cuevas gives up 2 "HR's" in virtually same place (either side of foul pole) to the same hitter. Well we wanted consistency.

Detroit BP doing its best to keep the race in reach for NY. Now 8-5 and the Yanks left the bases loaded Finally in the top 9

Cora needs to improve his velocity and location.

He also needs to pump up and get beyond the warning track power today

Why do the Red Sox have to get into the third time through the order to begin hitting, when the s***** opponent can score early ?
Posted
Not one strike pitched to Moreland, but count is 3-2. Then whiffs on a center cut, pulling off the ball as Mitch is prone to do

If Cora doesn't care about winning this game I guess I won't care about watching it. Good bye.

Tough to win a game when your starting pitcher gives up 4 runs in a single inning.
