Can we not have Beni hit so high in the order against LHP?

Really good point because it's the hitting that is broken tonight. Porcello pitched another brilliant game and was just unlucky with the lack of run support.

Of just one thing I feel certain but can never prove. If Butler had started behind the plate, every single run would have been blamed on him. In other words, there is only so much a good catcher can do to keep (or get) his pitcher in a groove. Tonight Porcello proved just how important command of your pitches is and how narrow the gap between brilliant and just plain awful.

Betts is slightly winning the MVP over JD after this cycle. Wow!

Said that, 5 R, a cycle, and didn’t win? Porcello blew this one.

I'd give Betts the slight nod over JD right now because of all the other tools Betts brings to the game. Trout shouldn't even be in the conversation at this point.

I still believe that JD is the best hitter in MLB.

Don't give a crap about the loss. I've never seen anyone hit for the cycle before. Now I can say I have. Amazing. Betts is pure baseball watching joy.

YES! I can't believe this game thread isn't going nutso over this. What's up with you guys? We're still nursing an 8 game lead and you can't be ecstatic about seeing one of ours do one of the rarest things in baseball??

It’s called natural five tool player.

Yeah, Betts makes look baseball an easy sport to play in every single way.

He's got six tools. He has an epic cool factor only found in the slimmest of people and players. His cool factor 6th tool rating is off the charts.

Hits for the cycle...... insane.

I remember watching the game that Holt hit for the cycle in, it was about 3 years ago.

What is forgotten about that game is that the Red Sox almost had 2 players hit for the cycle that night. Mookie had a single, double and triple. Right after Holt completed his cycle with a triple, Betts came up with needing a homer to also accomplish the feat. He flied out as I recall.

I don't think two players hitting for the cycle in one game has ever been done. To have the possibilty of 2 guys hitting back to back in the line-up do it is mind boggling.

Talk about rare, Dewey. Do you remember when the great Bill Mueller hit two grand slams in one game from opposite sides of the plate? Only player ever to do it. Btw, I also discovered that Mueller had a career batting average against the great Rivera of .455. Mr. Mueller should never be forgotten by SOX fans.
